This was a decent deal at $400, but it's rather remarkable at $330 after a $70 rebate.

The only part that you'd care about is the 750 Ti. That's 1080p gold right there, gents. This is exactly the kind of machine that I was lusting for when the 750 Ti was released.

400$ is the price of a current gen console anyways, so if this is superior to them already, we're already in Value Town.

I rather the system that lets me play the games I want.

Good news, I have all 3.:)And it's not a ps4 or xbox one.

Oh dear, I did set myself up for that one I guess. You know I meant 3 systems to play the myriad of games I want to play. I still find it amusing though that I tend to have the most fun with the 3ds.

I'm not sure we aren't getting ridiculously hyped over this.

How often do people come around and go, "I want to build a computer for $500" and you go, "Fuck dude, you can barely get a blowjob from Trickster's mother for that."

If they came up to you and asked what they could do for $330, you'd just laugh.

This thing will play just about everything at 1080p. It's a monster.

Me either. I find all consumer tech boring. Some new server stuff gets me excited but its mostly amazing software/OS features now days.

    Me buying computers:
Buy computer -> computer breaks / is too old to play new game -> upgrade with whatever is best value at the time.

    Me buying console:
Excluisive release I must play -> buy console -> play game -> lend to friend for 6 months -> put in cupboard.

    Me buying phone:
Buy new phone -> break phone within 2 weeks -> get out HTC Desire Z -> never bother replacing new phone. Desire Z too damn good.

When we say, "consumer technology," there's an implicit assumption that we want to possess it. And if you're not looking to shell out any cash, then it's easy to go, "meh."

However, that desire of possession isn't really relevant here. I doubt too many of us are scrambling to get a machine like this. But the idea that hardcore 1080p PC gaming might no longer cost ~$600 is really fucking appetizing for me. That's a game-changer. That's why the steam machine program exists. It's a big deal for PC gaming.

And why would you care about this? There is no direct benefit there for you if people who can only spend 300$ on their gaming PC can now play in 1080p instead of 900p.

    I didn't, I gave a decent build for 500$

You're right though, If someone wanted something for 330$ I wouldn't be sure it could be done. This is pretty reasonable though...

That's not bad at all. Granted, there's a cost to assemble & provide support (even if it's just a call center to do basic diagnosis & then charge for treatment) as well as a vastly superior form factor that hand-built machines simply can't match. There's also the cost of the OS (~$100) and the 360 controllers (~$30). But disregarding those situational concerns, that's not an entirely hopeless build. The motherboard scares me and the case is probably loud & hot, but it would get the job done.

Well yeah, gotta cheap out somewhere if you want them fancy graphics. Quite literately picked the lowest option on pc partpicker while getting stuff that has a bit of a reputation for being decent enough.

Unless you mean that 500 one, I'm certain that's solid as can be.

If it's got better spec than current gen consoles and they keep it that way then great but the reason a lot of us use gaming PCs rather than consoles is for the crazy high end or just shittily optimized stuff.

Hook it up to an IR sensor, a huge storage drive and a high end soundcard and you've made a pretty damn good home cinema system with the added benefit of playing games during ad breaks.

Most PC gamers actually aren't like that.

Go check out steam's hardware survey and >95% of people are gaming at 1080p or less. Something like >50% are gaming at our below 1280x1024.

That's why this kind of thing is a moderately big deal. It helps the plebs.
