That thing was fricken awesome, but it can't work in source because it was never intended for players to walk around on large moving structures. If you look at passengers in a jeep they like rubber band and shit, and that's players constrained to seats, imagine the chaos on something where they have freedom to move.
Only in the campaign, for like one tiny section. And you don't get to drive it or nothing. Another reason I didn't like 4.
Seriously? I was actually interested when I thought you guys were talking about actual animals and not vehicles.
The CV's wheels should be turned flat and it should become a hovercraft capable of moving in every direction. CV out manoeuvres tanks like a boss...would be cool and really compensate for their overall (necessary) low speed and bad handling :p
CVs are not slow and there's nothing that requires them to handle like shit. I'd MUCH prefer a slow CV with superior handling.
I actually agree with Para that it's fine as is. The only other solution I could see is to just replace the Comm with a stationary building so teams would... I dunno, actually have to put defenses around their comm? Because as is, the best comm defense is to keep it mobile, although this really eliminates motives for heavy turtling in most maps.
id love to try FPS in a classic RTS enviroment (as in - upgradeable townhalls, ai controlled units, army sizes dependend on food supplies, multiple resources, building prerequisites, multiple pure research buildings, unit type dependend buildings, and so on ...) savage did a lot like that but i dont like close combat fp"s".
I'm not saying we should make empires like Savage, just like most RTSes in the way the 'command center' is handled. I also think killing the CV shouldn't result in an autowin unless the map specifies.
a sequel, maybe, but not this empires. in the end its would be a completely different game with completely different problems.
I feel like Empires needs a major gameplay tweak, but I'm still not able to put my finger on it. It's no good to say the players aren't as great so the games don't last long, because that's really not the case. Games used to be long with crappy teams. I still feel like there's a huge wedge of the cheese missing, which is really why I haven't been playing...it's lost a lot of its addictiveness, and that never used to happen. Anyway, I was going to say that maybe it needs alternative win conditions? Not that the CV isn't easy to do, but maybe in exigent circumstances there could be something else. Having said that, though, I don't think that's the one either... Useless post is useless.
