So I played a round of duststorm just now with the shotty pistol, and yeah, it's just a wee bit too powerful. Security's pretty much right. That having been said, I'd still stick with the pistol 1 simply for the range advantage, but I can quickly see the shotty becoming a problem on maps such as crossroads, if I was doing so well with it on duststorm.
I like the pistol the way it is. If it were nerfed, I would suggest being able to fire both shells at once as a kinda select fire thing. However I don't know how it would be toggled since rmb is melee.
Not actually the worst idea I've heard. Arguably the greatest you've come up with. We do want a weapon specials key at some point because we'll need it for the shotguns. Honestly, I never thought of that. Thanks.
Well we were really struggling to think of what key to use, especially given we wanted to set Q up for spotting/targeting, but no-one ever really uses the torch (flashlight) so it does make sense to get rid or shove it to another less accessible key.
What about Alt? It's used by the "rotate view" for comm, but these two functions practically can't be used at the same time. The problem with G is you'd have to use your index finger and that might affect your movement. Alt can be pressed by your thumb. But this isn't a major issue since you still have mouse control. If it's not worthy then move flashlight to X. It still can be used to discover mines in dark areas and sometimes hidden scunts.
I believe some mouses don't have a "pressable" wheel button. Some really shit mouses don't even have a button as I recall. and touchpad..etc We do have wheel up/down for switching weapons. I don't know about your mouse. But for my mouse, it's really easy for me to accidentally "scroll" it when I am trying to "press" the button. I can change the setting but then again, why not just make it Alt? EDIT: Pressing wheel button would affect your aiming too.
Because alt is really awkward and also is used for slow walk in most source games (is it in empires?) Why not just g for voice commands and f for this?
No, because the mere act of pressing the middle mouse button already shifts or slightly impacts your aim.
How so? My middle finger is always resting on the middle button. You might as well say that its impossible to shoot as well since pressing the LMB will always throw your aim off as well. <possible conversation flow> Then you say... "well we correct for that eventuality automatically in our head." Then I say... "Then why not do it when using the middle button?"
Do me a favour. Bind +attack to mouse 3 for a week and play like that, and then rebind it to LMB. It's simply a lot similar to click with the LMB because we're more accustomed to it; using m3 is a lot more awkward. Plus, when I play Empires on a laptop, my m3 is jamming m1+m2 together, which is annoying as hell.
If you're playing empires on a track pad you're gimped to begin with. And yes mouse3 is slightly more awkward, but it probably wouldn't be used while you are also using primary fire.
Don't knock it until you try it. Anyways, I propose binding alt fire to g (it's what I do for pretty much every game I play), because no one really uses the flashlight anyways.
