I got to Elite 4 on gold with 5 of my pokemon being like 10 levels below all of their's, and my starter being about 30 above. FLAMETHROWER ALL UP IN THIS BITCH. EVERYWHERE.
Well the game is designed for 10 y/os so yes, the optimal story strategy is to just find ur favurit and grinditup. Starting up again, gunna do some grindins.
When we last left our heroes we were outside the gym in Celadon. Turns out.. The gym isn't grass type any more. It's actually a flying type gym. No huge drama. After beating up the shitty henchmen, we took on Erika, the gym leader. She seemed a little out of it. Cool. Do you realise how little Candles is going to care? A staraptor was her lead. No drama at all. A super effective attack left us hurting. Devourawr switched in to deal with the threat. Flare blitz is the highest power physical fire move, unfortunately it has 30% recoil damage. I'll save it for when it's REALLY needed. With a potion on candles we were ready to take the fight back to em.

With erika down I was confident in our ability to wipe the earth clean of these Rocket scum. I headed to B1F first to see if there were any items I could steal. Alas it just took me back to the start. Bottom floor... This looks important.

A familiar technique flashed before Empty's eyes and the Murkrow struck Devourawr down before he could return to the pokeball. Giovanni cackled. Goodnight sweet prince. The grin was wiped off Giovanni's face, 'Candles. Kill him.' Empty stated coldly. A look of panic appeared on Giovanni's face. Stars of pain erupted in Empty's vision, and he fell to the floor, the last thing he saw as he passed out was a grinning Rocket member, holding the rifle he'd used to club Empty. Darkness swelled in his vision and the world went dark. Empty awoke on the cold steel floors. Giovanni was gone and there was no sign of Rocket presence. He searched the office but found nothing of use except a small device. Silph was engraved on the side. Empty left the Game Corner, still groggy and swaying from the concussion. He stumbled towards the Pokemon centre, and burst in. He healed his pokemon, as he reached down for his 5th ball he noticed it was missing. Joy clipped the balls into the machine and activated it, while Empty frantically searched his person for the fifth ball. It was gone. He released his pokemon from the balls. Vulkanis, Hexi, Brutos and Viroman were there. Devourawr had been slain in combat, but where was Candles? Giovanni had stolen him. We have 2 slots to fill. Options are: Zeke the Furret Sonecha the Vulpix Kane the Ekans Jephir the Smeargle
I can no longer light your way at this time, Empty. For now, you must light your own path through the tower of spirits. Devourawr's passing was a great loss to us all, but you must push forward! Gods speed bro.
A fire type will come in handy until you can get Candles back. Don't know about the second but I'm leaning towards Ekans.
While grinding something beautiful happens. Our strength grows. You have been promoted. Vulkanis can now place 2 turrets or some shit I dunno. Brutos learns a decent move. Another evolution, I knew that firestone would be useful. We're approaching the threshold from ragtag to somewhat organised. Seemed relevant. Kane was eager to finally make his contribution, he'd been waiting in the box for a long time. 'Take out the Riolu, use Poison Fang!' Empty ordered, Kane hissed in approval and lunged, sinking it's fangs into the Riolu. The Riolu responded by clamping it's own teeth deep into Kane's soft flesh. The snake let go and writhed on the floor, the bite had gone straight through the skin and flesh and had snapped a vertebrae. Slowly Kane stopped writhing and Empty looked on despairingly.
