That is actually a great a question. I can't think of any logical reason for there removal. Maybe because in the past if a new person was comming and they did not know how to give targets they would be vote kicked. or maybe because it let the com show the position of a player anywhere in his view radius?
Spammable commander targets were admittedly a bit pap. Would still like the comm be able to throw up a UAV for localised targets for a limited time.
I think the commander not being able to target 1 enemy per player is pretty dumb. they now constantly give me move orders and attack area orders.
I think comm targets should be put back in so commanding isn't as boring. Dropping buildings and research is basically all we do now... Unless you're hobbes, then you drive the cv into the enemy base and get turreted or sticky stunned next to the rax and bitch because the team won't come to save you.
How much fun is it to do the same mindless repetetive button pushing for hour after hour? If I wanted to be an obsessive button pusher, I would play WOW. EDIT: Made a mistake here, and I'm not sure what people thought I meant.
I miss the period after targets left but before com health went from 2000 down to 1000. That was the golden age of boomtanking
As oppose to spamming targets for hours? Spamming targets for different groups and getting bitched at if you didn't update targets within the last 10secs is not fun. They can always make move/protect/attack order interface a lot better so it is more like a RTS game.
Unless you boomtank throughout the entire round, I don't think that's possible... oh wait... that's what you do...
I never used to boomtank to the extent that I do now. There's just nothing else to do... however, I generally don't lose the CV in the process...
If you think there's nothing to do as the commander, you're doing it wrong. There are dozens of things the commander needs to be doing all at once. A good commander should be constantly checking on their orders given to squad leaders, working on maxing out their turret cap by placing turrets in a spread-out manner in defendable areas, working on maxing out their wall cap by surrounding buildings with walls, placing tank traps to block enemy vehicle rushes, recycling walls and structures when they block the team, placing refineries down before a player requests one, placing armories throughout the map, researching a tech tree that fits map conditions and counters the enemy research perfectly, warn the team of scout sabotages and vehicle rushes, giving attack orders for artillery tanks... There are dozens of things to do. If you are sitting in the command vehicle idling you are being an irresponsible commander.
