What Do You Think of Rap?

I dont get why they call it rap. I always figured they forgot the C. Though there is the rare exceptions.

 

Eminem is crap. He is a joke like dude said in the comments.

Real underground comedic gangster rap is better.. Like Mac mutha fuckin Dre.

Why do you think its crap? Not all his songs are good but really, using a guy on youtubes comments as evidence? You'll have to do better then that.

 

his voice alone gives me a splitting head ache.. He needs to be comedian not a rapper. Everyone I knew back when his first cd came out loved him, that made me dislike him and then when I actually listened to him with an open mind I just didn't like his delivery. His lyrics and beats arn't too bad.

But like Mac Dre said "its not what you say, its how you say it".. Em's annoying

Mac Dre got rich and famous independently. That alone makes me respect him, he made his own record label and off of pure talent got big. Eminem got discovered by dr. dre(whos a bitch in his own right) and pushed onto MTV and mass media because he was a "white rapper" that wasn't actually that bad. And that alone makes me not like him, Because I know plenty of white rappers and hip hop artists that are talented that didn't get some big break and a big movie deal. Fuck all that shit.. Theirs better stuff out there. Anything on MTV pretty much is shit.

Eminem's new albumn makes me want to cry, but most of the stuff on curtain call is decent. Without me, My name is, The Real Slim Shady. Sing for the moment and stan have good lyrics, though the beats bore me. If you can find the explicit versions of "Still don't give a fuck" and "Role Model" are also good oooold eminem songs. Oh, and eminem has an absolutely sick verse in "Patiently waiting". Actually, 50 cent isn't terrible on that song either.

I think sometimes people get lost in the beat and love a song or a rapper and don't realize how much he actually sucks.. It's just a beat some millionaire producer made for him. Like rick rock.. His beats are dope but hes got these clowns rapping on them, If he sold just the instrumentals I'm sure he would still be rich.

I got a very cynical view towards lyrics. Generally I think that artists put 1% of the time into the lyrics as fans spend trying to decipher the "deep, cryptic metaphors" which the artist was trying to express.

i.e, the killers: "Are we human? or are we dancer?"

so basically I generally don't listen to lyrics much actually, I just see the voice as another instrument. I mean, you can get seriously bad lyrics "love me through the phone.... love me through the phone" for example. but most of the time i'll listen to the first verse and after that it's all a blur.

 

I listen to enough scandinavian bands to have the opinion that lyrics are just supposed to rhyme and not much else, the major exception possibly being nightwish's 'over the hills and far away'

However you also have songs like legend of steel and the ancient forest of elves which are quite clearly copy and pasted from the appendix to lord of the rings, while being no less awesome for it.

Mac Dre had hella white friends and they got him into shrooms and other drugs haha which molded his creativity and fashion into something unlike any other rapper. You got eminem acting like hes black, but how bout a black rapper who acts like hes white? He created this song called get stupid. He said he was inspired by mosh pits at hardcore shows and got all these gangsters into it.
