New Research-able Item. "Upgraded light cannon" or some other name that means the same. One slot cannon that would generally be only viable for the light tank/AFV(crap tank). Think UML VS ML but, ULC VS LC instead. This should make a light tank a much more effective unit late game. Shove it in Advanced machining (I can't think of anywhere else to make it a later game stage while not lop-siding the tree).
Hmmmm... I like this idea. But what if, instead, we called it "Improved Standard Cannon", just to emphasize that it's just an improvement over a a very basic weapon, not something much better? The current weapon is called "Standard Cannon" and not "Light Cannon" as it is, by the way. We could also do the same thing for missiles in the same vein. Call it "Improved Standard ML". UML vs ML isn't a good analogy because UML is 2-slot. UML vs ML is closer to HE vs Std. CN.
Well I wanted to lean away from using the name "improved standard cannon" because it WAS standard for NF (I think it was).
Funnily enough, this weapon is already in the scripts. Just commented out. Edit: Looking at it seems to be a clone of the current one though, I guess the default was simply improved at some point.
It used to be a BE only weapon, and NF could only use "standard". It did 10 more damage if I recall correctly.
Put this in projectile physics to increase phsycis's power as an early agression tree. DU/50C apcs + USC lighttan/afv is a powerful force to be reckoned with, and if they have fission engines then they will also be able to outfight people with their 3phase "superlights"
Be nice if improved standard cannon could also be stacked. So that you could use all cannon slots. Why is it that you are prevented from using all 5 slots for 1 slot weapons?
It used to be for the BE AFV because lights could charge an AFV and pound away without the AFV being able to hit it (couldn't angle the barrel far enough down). It also had a wider splash radius, sort of like a mini-HE. To be honest, there should be more 1-slot variants. There should be more variants of cannons overall, but there should be some choice (not a lot) on the 1-slots.
Double standard machine gun is where it's at. I love that thing, beats the pants off of chain-gun. If anything, this cannon should be in chemistry, because despite the large amounts of things in chemistry, they're usually bad.
Absorbant + USC would allow some pretty useful early aggro chem strats and it could transition into multiple research paths too
HEMG isn't particularly good at one thing, but doesn't it deal a bunch of damage to both infantry, tanks, and buildings? That makes it considerably different from most other mg weapons.
