Working towards more gib models for all buildings, starting off with engy cam and radar and will go from there, doesnt take too long by the looks of it, but i'm fresh at modelling with blender and the whole setup so thankfully I learn quick.

Likely before I get to those animations I'll practice some more models and texturing and since I was looking for ideas, I'll try to rip out some sexy trees.

if you need practice in creating huge rock piles you can use to disguise the ugly where cliff and floor displacements touch ............... ;)

Or the mappers can lern2map and stitch their displacements together properly/texture better.

Source has quite a lot of rock piles, don't think we really need more of them, tisn't as though you can actually use huge numbers of them without lagging the game to hell and back anyway.

We need rock piles that have proper hit boxes.

Not if you're just heaping them against displacements you don't.

We could use some single rocks, or logs, or military fortifications, or basically stuff that can be used as small bits of cover, but big piles of rocks? Got loads of those.

no the hitbox on the rocks is crap, we really do need some redone.
but i'mma try trees first, cause they make the game more sexy.

Apparently, trees are really difficult, so maybe it's not the best thing to start with. That's what Mayama told me anyway.

Foliage is the single hardest thing to model, possibly after people.

Bushes are only textured planes with twigs in the middle right? And by extension trees are just bigger, more complex bushes.(Using knowledge for making props in 3D RTS mods)

well yes but if you want trees that look good like this example

you need a commercial programm that generates it for you or you have years of practice with it.

Erm, there is no such thing as a 'hair function' in the game, and if there was, it'd lag the everloving shit out of everything with how expensive it'd be.

Indeed, all good trees are basically made with special tree/foliage creation and rendering software. There are whole programs and even engines specifically designed to render foliage, it's that difficult to do.

the leave sprites are attached in the wrong direction?! shouldnt it be wider at the trunk and smaller on the outside? also branches usually grow upwards out of the trunk and then go down due to their weight ...

    direction is good.

it'd be cooler if you could see the broken top of the trunk above the leaves....imho.
