Could you make it so that the server scripts override the client scripts? Therefore, you can still run a listen server, but scripters can test new scripts just by updating the server ones (rather than using a distribution system)?
The emp_script_path CVar is replicated. So, if you join a server, it automagically uses the server's scripts.
Will this feature also be available for the final version? So server owners can decide about the balance?
Hopefully we will only have responsible server owners. Else we will have the biggest possible balance confusion.
You could make it where servers are designated as 'vanilla' or 'modded' whether they use the official scripts. Killing Floor does something similar where they note which servers count towards achievements and which don't (so you can filter searches to the servers you want).
Well if the main servers screw too much with it, the scripts can still be totally encrypted and then none outside the devteam could change them. That wouldn't be a nice solution but there are last measures available.
Yes, there will be a irremovable tag which is set if a) emp_script_path is modified and b) if checksums of the individual scripts don't match (probably with crypto, as simple checksum can be easily, very easily modified)
is there someone with font editing software? i have the pictures and i have the font, but i cant seem to get a font software to work to save the bloody thing
hmm have read only introduction so far but as soon as borderlands lets me free ill punch some scripts to my suggestions together and would to see them tested with some of you guys critizing it to no end on the other hand, add me in steamfriends for whenever an additional target is needed, nick should be reasonable clear
If this thing actually works, maybe I can get motivated to polish up my scripts and give them a go before 2.25 comes out and I take over empiresmod with my superior scripting skills.
i had a go at the empires weapons for laughs, but then ended up liking them a lot http://dl.dropbox.com/u/1415325/scripts/empweapons.rar they are generally more powerful up close then the normal ones, and kinda start sucking over range, the ones that dont suck over range just suck "less" over range then others, and are more "medium distance" weapons tell me if you like, i tried them out on bots, but just to see if they "feel" right, not really put much effort into balancing them amoung themselves
gee, that would be nice! any time is good even if it was for trying out the "testing" system we have here this would actualy be a godo idea id say on escort or district would be best, escort because it gives a nice "close combat with tanks in the matter" as closest^to command style "heavy infantry" map i have added in nice texts in the description box additionally, so people know what to expect http://dl.dropbox.com/u/1415325/scripts/testscripts.rar they are for the SDK version, but will work on the released version too (but some classes may end up with guns not for them, because i switched some numbers over) i was thinking about testing them somewhere at the end of the week? friday or saturday perhaps i can every day in between sunday and today, since i have a week off
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/1415325/scripts/testscripts 0.3.rar newest version, did some one on one tests with several people to check lethality on living players (used bots before) also added in some custom sounds for the new weapons and stuff thank you for the people that helped me with various stuff and content
new mortar/rpg particle effect 2.25 only If you want to test something: download http://www.mediafire.com/?jmgxyxwmwia to /empiresTEST/particles/ backup & replace old file new mortar/rpg effects using refract shader
Blizzerd, I'd like you to first to get a feel for RoboTek's new vehicle scripts, at least before you decide to modify any anti-vehicle weaponry. My next quick question would be whether these new weapons are including the "shotgun" that was proposed to be added to 2.25. Finally, I'll setup a time soon, and we can test Siro's new effect at the same time. I'll keep you guys posted :D.
