Right, most people don't know me because I switch up my servers and my name alot, but I've actually been playing since the first release and got to be pretty decent so I consider myself a vet. Anyway, I just played a game swarming with n00bs (strangely all on the NF side; yeah, I know it was blatant skill stackage but it was funny enough to warrant it) and it was hilarious. All the NFs on escort tried to be Rambo and bum-rushed my AFV with HMGs while 6 turrets (I was too busy laughing my *** off to actually fire my guns) cut them down from the battlements. It was like Stalingrad all over again! After we capped the fourth flag we all went scout and formed a phalanx of cloakers just to see what would happen, and this one guy actually bumped into a wall of half-invisible people and was wondering what was happening. It was priceless. He started screaming about glitches and collision crap while our entire team was rolling on the floor laughing. Too bad it fell through after one guy was laughing too hard to keep his finger on the crouch key, but it was one of the funniest things I've ever seen.
right, newb speaking here: As a veteran of Red Orchestra I know how horrible it is to see your favorite game overrun by people who don't know how to do the stuff that makes your team win (artillery, capturing objectives etc. in RO, skills, building stuff etc in Empires). However, it makes the game more popular, thus more people on the server. Also, I'm a quick learner and on my second day of playing Empires I found out how you do most of the things (never been commander though). Also, I love Empires, especially the big outside maps that take an hour to win (I mis that in RO). HDR is a bit too much for my liking but I'll just turn that off. Detail is average, nothing fancy but since most maps are huge and my pc is crap I can understand why. In the 2 days I played I already have fantastic stories to tell, how during this capture map (don't know the name, blue team starts with one capture point, the reds with like 5 or 6) our team (the blue guys, my favorite side) were pushing the reds back until our tanks got stuck in a bridge that needed to be build first. Luckily our infantry could jump on the tanks and cross the bridge that way. Holding off the reds and waiting for the bridge to be build it became a real battlefield with minimal cover. Only some pipes to hide for the turrets. After a while the bridge got build and we continued to push the reds back and won. The thing that fascinated me was how little I actually died.
That's emp_escort, and in the tests it was tough for BE to win on that map. Looks like we're gonna have to change our way of testing :D
I duno about you guys, but i learn everything about this game on the first day of playing it (yesterday).. So i'm not that nubby in game, i know what i need to do/accomplish.
