there is literally no point it just alienates people that don't keep up with community affairs and makes it harder to play a game that needs more people to play it. inb4 anti social crap retorts about how noobs will ruin the experience or some malarkey.
It does stop people who are not part of the scrims to join. It also stops people from unbalancing the teams. It also stops people to join the server and not be in teamspeak where all of the communication happens. It also stops people from joining the server just to troll. We have a gigantic thread here, just joinup! http://forums.empiresmod.com/showthread.php?t=19582&page=3
the only thing i dont like about the passwords is that it isnt posted anywhere unless you go to teamspeak and ask for it it should be in the steam groups
It's kinda an official scrim and people actually care about it. Also, for fuck sake, let's just admit it, we are stuck here, we spent 10 years to prove this. Open servers or not, we are not going anywhere with what we have.
We should probably put a direct to the forums in the server title or something so people can sign up, though to be fair at 25v25 + 2 specs we really don't have room for other people. If we'd been on a pub server there would have been no space for you to join anyway, the scrim server just has more slots to give us some room.
I would usually do that, but I got in late the past 2 scrims and everyone was in already. Not like I can do it previously because the pass is decided right when the scrim starts.
over 20vs20 is actually quite too many.. my PC goes less than 10 fps and apparently so does the server. its almost unenjoyable...especially the last match I can imagine that those running intels dont have it this bad
I'm playing with a 7 year old CPU and a modern GPU and don't get any fps problems, not sure what you are ranting at.
Well I get less than 30 FPS in Empires when the number of players is over 45-60. With this setup: AMD Phenom II X4 965 3.40GHz // 2x 4GB Ram // XFX Ati 7970 3GB Clean Windows 8.1 install on SSD currently btw. Usually when you are in battle it can drop as low as 5-10. Last match was around 5-20 FPS in battle, which is worse than usual, but there was some talk about bad map optimization. Quite unplayable at times. Running other games like GTA V on almost max. Arma 2/3 or DayZ runs terrible aswell. Not much problems with any other games. Iam guessing its the single core games. Empires performance gets really sensitive when there is a lot of players for me. I would say it got a little worse since some last few months updates, but not sure.
I'm sorry but these complaints are really pathetic, if you love a game, find ways to pass it on, get more people involved. Its sort of silly how easy of a task it would be to make the game more inclusive, haven't any of you heard of how poor the reputation of this community is? Why do you think the general public would come to such a consensus? Maybe because a lot of the "really seasoned cool vets" are very anti-social and like I predicted in the OP, the first volley of complaints levied against my arguments are all exclusionary "we're playing with OUR toys" sort of crap. I actually still see new players come on every time a good sized pub match is opened. Millions of people play source engine FPS games, Empires has a marketing and reputation issue, not a gameplay issue. I don't think there is anything wrong with organizing games and I agree making the password available would be a good step. Also, people come and go, in a 64 player server there is room for expanding and contracting I really don't think it would be that big of an issue. Thoughts?
I don't know if you actually played in a scrim match, but it wouldn't work out very well if it was a public game. We only play 2 rounds, the only reason people tend to quit between rounds is because they got tired of waiting due to some unforeseen event. Empires may support 64 players but it isn't that fun of a game at 64 players, barring like 3 maps.
On a lot of maps it ends up feeling like district but on the entire map, feels like a crappy spamfest just like how battlefield ends up. Just saying, around 50ish feels like the sweet spot.
Ok then why did you complain about them? No they don't. I just looked at the stats, it barely hits over 600k and 500k of those are CSGO players.
