what about making acceavements only for commander? like, researched duapc's and won the game on a qualified server
what about bots? lets define a qualified server needs to have players playing the game? needs to be up for a while? i dunno, help me out here
Achievements needs to be non-intrusive to gameplay, and they shouldn't cause people to whore them. I've said my peace
I thought this thread was a joke...I don't know what's good about achievements really - you are awarded for playing games...in an attempt to make you addicted and waste your life? Games should be played for fun and competition, both, not either or. This achievement crap is something that really sticks in my craw...something to distract children like a shiny bauble away from the actual life that they should be living. Guess i'm just an oldskool ranter.
what about acceavements that only stay for like... 1 week something where you can read the players playstyle from, people wont really grind them because its reset every so often, but the goals should be pretty easy acceaveable in 1 week with normal play 1 or 2 hours a day
Which gives them what point? Achievements are made to be Achieved, not reset and discarded. They are bragging point and ego boosters. Nothing more or less.
My opinion... At most: A rank w/achievements; small stripes/stars/etc. to show rank on player skin. At least: Some sort of achievements that require ridiculous circumstances (such as being killed 10 times by mines when you have Mine Detection, or drowning/destroying the CV within 2 minutes of a match starting. The first one would be called Mine Detector Ignorer, and the second one would be called Griefer.)
Something I think would be interesting to do, but require a lot of commitment from the community (yes, I lifted this from Halo 3: ODST), tie achievement unlocks to some audio clips. Get some community voice actors to roleplay soldiers explaining the lead-up to the war and/or some awesome combat scenarios like an airdrop with lots of squad chatter and shit. Make a short story out of them, make them unlock with achievements (add a menu entry to access them later).
