Instructions on how to enable steam content distribution for Empires: Go to your Steam folder (where Steam.exe is) create/open a file named steam.cfg enter the following text Code: SdkContentServerAdrs = 85.25.71.178 restart steam. In case you get a "retry connection" error, remove the line and restart steam. Steam content server will be up at every playtest with the current build.
So, this will re-use the files I've already gotten using the SVN? EDIT: I tried it, and nothing seems to be going on. My SVN was up-to-date for the #4 playtesting. EDIT2: I see it. It's in the Uninstalled region. Is there a way to re-use the SVN version?
As far as I see it, it is a 1,8 GB gcf package in Your steam directory called "empires-content" or something. There is no way to re-use the files fromj svn, as far as I know.
Id suggest keeping this server on for a week or so atfirst to allow everyone to download the full file so that the next time its switched on testers will only have to download the most recent patch instead of getting several hundred MBs that were previously available
Probably because so many people are downloading at once, its not an official Valve content server remember so will have far less bandwidth
please dont explain what it is (i helpt design some code algorithms my company uses when virtualising servers, i know what it is ) explain why it isnt a dedicated hardw server as this task would require
