    the plan is that the name is shown when you hold the mouse over the icon

    Look at the arrows. Its pretty damn obvious where the arrows on the paths are pointing...

    I like the way it does NOT have text labels. Icons explain everything
    The rocket icon could be more like the Empires rocket model than like a Stinger:

    Much shorter, with a flame in it's back.
    The current icon looks more like a bow arrow than like a Empires rocket for me.

    This may have been said, but I'll ask anyway. What about clicking something thats a few notches up, and it automatically researching towards it. Say you have the res, and you wana go straight for nukes. Click on Nukes, and it will begin researching phsyics, and after that, straight to nuclear fission, and after its finished that, starts researching nukes? It would make life easier for commanders who are busy helping elsewhere but didn't notice the "research is now complete" sound or message. This seems pretty easy to implement with your new dynamic research tree.
