This is my first release for empires, its a rather small map, that is also rather linear. But should provide for some interesting game play on smaller servers. Because of the tight space, resources are limited. So... spend wisely. The map is a narrow valley or canyon, with a lake on each end. Each faction starts at either end. Between the lakes is a snaky river. You won't want to park in the river... as it is rather deep, but is narrow and shallow enough that you can cross if your quick. There are also 3 bridges that can be built at strategic points along the river to make crossing "safer." The river and small thickets of tree's should provide some cover for infantry, but if you are caught in the open... we will draft a letter for your mother. Download Now! (5256 k)
i put this map on one of my server and try this map out.....NOW... Edit: its a funny map! short but funny.
From what I see in the image, could use a couple of rocks round the edges, to give it more feel. Also, is there any variation in height of the ground, such as craters or hills?
Nice first map, could be a bit larger but that water looks great -edit- Maybe put the trees a bit more natural?
Yeah, rocks probably would have been a good idea. There isn't a whole lot of variation, other then the river bed, its pretty flat. I thought about that, but I shrugged it off as I figured my first release wouldn't make it very far anyways I wanted to call it canyon... but that is already very much taken. I was originally working on a huge map, but its been a long time since I have done any level design and I wanted to get something that was quick and simple. This only took me two half days to complete. I would have more pictures, but that pic pretty much says it all lol. Its a Z shaped canyon, with a "water hazard" that carves the canyon floor up into 4 different sections. I'm going to start work on another map now, either something thats duststorm-esk, or something based off the C&C:RA "Ridge War"
For a first map its good. I liked it. The river gives the infantry a edge over the tanks. Btw was propose that you can drive through the river with a lt?
If played the map today. I like it, but it is a bit too green in my opinion and you shouldn't be able to cross the river without building the bridges.
You can cross the river with basically any vehicle, up to about 7 or 8 times, then you run out of HP and your vehicle blows up. I figured this was acceptable, as you would only attempt a crossing if the way ahead was clear, if your in a fire fight, you would be taking hits on your armour, and chances of not making a perfect crossing are much lower. Plus its lots of fun to jump the river esp with phase 3, esp in a heavy.
I want to thank VIPER for letting people play this map on their server. With the reversion to a 200res rax and the weapons of 2.28 this map is very, very playable. Even with a teams of 8-9 people this map is intense and not without satisfaction. Everyone who played enjoyed it, though people who thought that it needed secret pathways or to be a little larger didn't get the map concept . This map teaches how to use walls and how to work together with vehicles to gain ground under heavy fire. I think that this is the best map for new players to play as it shows them the true value of each weapon in a good way. snipers dont kill as much as riflemen do mortars are useful for hitting targets behind cover you need cameras to defend cluttered positions from flanking turrets go well in trees res is very important reviving teammates is crucial etc my point is that this map teaches these things more effectively than others.
with the removal of targets you can also go through the water to their base. so theres your secret passage
