i know this is hard to think of but, what if the engine had some random seed generator that would randomly swap the starting com's and starting res-spots to opposite sides.. i dont know what server it was but it was on canyon and the nf team had all of what normaly was the BE side , and vise versa... it was different and livened it up. and again its just a thought

AYE!!! I suggested this a while back, but a bit more advanced. I wanted random spawn points at the beginning of each map. This would make it so you don't know where your enemy is all the time, and would force you to scout ahead. AHA! More jobs for scouts :) Someone shot down my idea by saying that they go to a new base anyway, but with random spawn points you have to make sure it's safe before venturing anywhere.

Only thing I don't like about random spawn points that to keep things balanced, maps would have to be somewhat symmetrical.

maps should be symmetrical , otherwise you end up with a bunch of escort maps... not that there is anything wrong with escort. i just dont normaly see player go OOhh that map where one team has tanks and we dont...

symmetry is a boring and lazy way to balance a map =(

Then maybe we can balance random spawn points with like, say, a res advantage as opposed to the other team's chokepoint advantage. Things like those would work :)

What would u rather have? Lots of res or the control of a chokepoint?

Res guys: Haha, we got heavy tanks, we will crush you!

Chokepoint Guys: oh ffs, what point is there to control a chokepoint if they got heavy firepower...

    Res guys: noobs :P

Those were just random ideas I just thought up in a few seconds :p Maybe the team with more res has little space to build much and has to find places to expand, and the other team has to stop them with less(not by a whole lot)resources.

oh i thought you ment ballanced by haveing the res-spots on even spots of the map, as in no side really has a res avantage from the start. i guess you were talking about maps like money.. how its just mirrored

well as for another idea , krenzo could program a entity in that would designate the random start spots , that way mapers could say= well its ok for a team to start here , there is no map avantage by starting here or another spot. like i said by starting in the same spot every single time, everybody learns map avantages. thus if it was random start it would toss another gear in the loop

like a random map in an RTS, you don't know where you're going to spawn usually. I think this is a decent idea, maybe have 4 spawn points that all have equal advantages and teams are randomly placed to one of these spots.

This is possible using map entities, I think.

Just don't place the starts right next to each other? Lol?

It's not like Big Game Hunters (Starcraft) where there are TONS of spots, it would be made to where any combination would result in an ok start.

I think that if implemented this should be aviable in maps that are made for it. I don't see any point in reworking all the maps to accomodate this. :)

or just keep 2 on each map, but no NF start and BE start, just start a and start b.

I love big game hunters! The problem with it is that there are some good spots, some bad ones, these maps would have to be equal but different.

But isn't the idea behind this that enemy wouldn't know right from the beginning where you start? :) Since the resources must be evenly scattered for the game to be balanced that's the only gain you can get from having random starts. :)
