I had wondered why it didn't appear to be working for me, I was expecting that if I set it to a value it would then reset - so setting it as 500 would start the countdown again. Good to know.

Yeah ,well from all those guys i can i only ever see security and nihia frequently as engineers. So either its forcing shitty sling or they are just "com relays" and are not actualy in-game sl's, in which case you've failed to mention that detail.
Your interpretation of "comm relays" is actualy quite apt. I'll be quick to admit that it might be overly ambitious for a pug, perhaps not really necessary to elect SL prior to the game - but it cannot be worse than having anybody just turn up and form a squad? I'm not saying it is better, but I don't think it can be worse. I figured if I could allow teams to establish hierarchy/accountability then it might be conducive to more teamwork, but thats not a given - it may make no difference at all! Time will tell. I'm not trying to turn it into a scrim, just give a bit of structure to teams, not knowing if it will be a success - I chose my SL based on people I know are active, communicative and teamwork with clanner and pubber alike. In that respect the idea of "com relays" I find attractive. At the end of the day it is a PUG not a scrim. Its about getting active players together to play a handful of rounds. PUGs are really hit and miss. This is my first rodeo arranging anything, I did it because there were like 2 threads before this discussing getting a game together but no-one coming forward to make it happen, I didn't realise it would be as much work as it is. With that out of the way.... To say any of the squad leaders on either side can't Engy? Really... Either way - my message to everyone is clear, do not cast doubt - your leaders demand the excellence of execution, not your second judgement. Focus on your role. Fall in line or be left behind! FOR THE EMPRAAAR..... Sorry, I just got 40K space marine and I think it is taking over my mind a little bit.
Im not saying they cant, im saying they shouldnt. For example, security tries his best as an engy and props for that, but he's better off as roflo. I'll admit im biased here, I have upsetting memories that on most pugs i'll end up dead with neither rev engy nor a squad rev to be seen anywhere.
ill probably squad lead by lettin an engineer in my squad be the squad lead. I'll still have the command and I can get squad points as grenadier. Yay for tactics!
Not quite, if its set at 500 in the server.cfg then setting it to 500 wont make any change. Setting it to a number larger than 500 will add whatever the number was to the timer, setting it to a number smaller will remove whatever the number was from the timer. Its not exactly perfect but its better than having nothing
