To be fair, this idea is being suggested because grenadiers can't actually kill tanks at the moment. In the next version that may drastically change (as long-awaited gren changes are implemented) and grens may actually be able to finish off tanks. Pickled is right in suggesting the grenadier should be fixed foremost, but i'm not sure if this wouldn't still be viable after it is. Also, you do get assist points for helping destroy a tank etc, you just have to be in a squad.
Right. If one guy destroys 10 tanks, 4 other people will recieve a point as well. To be fair, the upcoming RPG buff will change things a little so assist points won't make such a huge difference like it would right now. I still stand by my point though, assist damage would be very viable if you make the numbers relatively large.
More points for grenadiers = more skills = better performance... ...enough to even the field? Nope. But maybe it's a start.
Once you have armor detection, your 'more' skills are: Ammo Upgrade - "At least I'll have extra ammo when I die." Speed Upgrade - "But does it make your rpgs any faster?" Health Upgrade - "It'll take two tank shells to kill you instead of ... two tank shells." I don't think I need to list the rest. Squad powers have a little benefit, and they are involved with points, but I don't think those should be taken into account for balancing until they become something other than gamebreaking gimmicks and worthless point-sinks, respectively.
I think tanks should be able to steamroll infantry. In regards to grens, it should be something like this: Jeep = 1 gren LT/AFV/APC = 2 grens Med = 3 grens Heavy = 4 grens Which is pretty close to what its at right now. If you buff too much where a single gren can take on a heavy tank, then tanks become useless. I still think the issue is that grens are hindered at getting points because they need tank kills (which SHOULD be hard to do) rather than tank damage.
I kind of agree that assists are a better way to go than points per damage. that way it still doesnt matter if the tank doesnt die. so, make sure the tank dies to get your points. best of both worlds isnt it?
Wow "Points for Grens for killing armor plates" got over 7 pages long, I'm stunned. Wait, no I'm not. It's as simple as this: Damaging tanks is good. (YES it is) Points are good. Currently you don't get points for damaging tanks. therefore, "Give points to grens for damaging tanks" The arguments? People will become crazed over points and abandon the game for them.
Damaging tanks is only good insofar as the tank eventually dies from the damage, much like paying for a candybar is only good insofar as you eventually receive the candybar in return.
It's true. Every time I try to play with LTs, the smoking husks don't do anything. However, I have racked up many skillful hours subsequently playing "kick the can", so it's not all bad.
If the tank would rather run you over than MG you to death, he's playing with you. If he dies, that's just the price of admission.
Weren't we talking about playing 'dodgems' with LTs? Regardless, he can retreat and re-equip, he can drive past you and kill something that costs resources, or he can waste 45 seconds trying to run you over until either he runs low on armor or you run out of ammunition, at which point one of you retreats. (Assuming, of course, that you don't go splat.) Which of these sounds like the preference of a serious player? He could also be a noob who hops out of his tank and promptly gets headshotted. P.S. I kill grenadiers with ranged cannon. Perhaps more often than is strictly necessary.
If he doesn't have defusal dropping mines can fuck him up, RPG is for taking armor down, mortar is for that last bit of HP. And tank drivers often sit with no plates on one side, but simply dont point it at the enemy. They're fools, yes, but they never see a mortar which scrapes the other side of their chassis coming. I've killed fucktons of tanks, lights, meds, APCs, even heavies (though not as regularly), with 300 ping. I think I know how to play grenadier.
