Why have plasma when you can have DU and extended range cannon in physics. I say if you were going to move it move it to a tree where there or no cannon or machine gun upgrades available like Mechanical engineering perhaps, then it would get a lot more use.

 

You could also break up the tree, and make vehicle upgrading its own tree, so as not to confuse new players.... And also create a new cannon or MG for electrical.

 

It is almost it's own tree. The only things in there otherwise are armour and engines - pretty damn necessary for vehicles anyway.

It's been thought of before, but...I think there's a long-term persistent idea to rework the research tree. So whatever comes up then, and when that comes up...well.
