The question is only, what the devs want to do with plasma.
Heard rumors, that it should be removed.

    Wow, Sexy

Would it be possible to replace the smoke trail of the railgun and instead use a blank texture with just a distortion shader?

I'm probably using the terms incorrectly but you get the idea

Do you mean like make the trail a sort of hazy see-through thing, like on a hot day or when something is really hot? If so, that'd be awesome.

Don't have code support on shell smoke trails, but since Moot is working on shells atm it should take roughly 3.8 months.

And yes HSM, I've thought about using a refraction shader (similar to the plasma blue flash) for the railgun. The issue is, the railgun is very slow at the moment.

    I should certainly hope not.
Plasma is my favourite weapon in every way except it's function.
It looks cool (mine looks cooler) it sounds cool and it's fucking PLASMA.

I also sorta synced the plasma explosion up to the sound, you know how plasma makes a "KATHUNKTISsssssssss" noise?
Well you get the flash on the KA and the THUNK is all the flames and sparks, and the TISsssssssss is the steam (there's steam by the way) and other vapours.

You can't download them, there is no provision for them in empires 2.24, you wouldn't be able to use them for anything.

Yes, this is WIP for the next release. If I can get my hands on beerdude there'll be much more to gawk at.

Changing how a weapon behaves is not up to me, I only decide how much people jizz their pants when they see it.

Do the visual effects have any relationship to the radius of the explosion's damage?

no, damage is scaled in the scripts

sizes of particles are determined by the particle editor, and the coders can make it smaller or bigger if they really want by changing stuff that's hard coded

the only thing you can change of particles in the scripts is the type and the amount of time that it stays around if i recall corerectly

I meant to ask if they reasonably represent the area of effect.

I'd suppose nukes are exempted. =P
(An explosion the size of 4 barracks! Woo!)

I've done my best to make effects around the area of their effective radius. I'm not locking things in though, as splash is quite open to change.

the WIP Nuke I made actually matches the ingame nukes radius. Check it:

That screen is slightly before the full radius of fire is reached. It's quite an impressive boom however. Originally I planned to have small spotfires remaining after the detonation, however it looked tacky because they were so tiny.

I need someone to make a fucking huge decal for me to match the radius, just to make nukes the ultimate scorched earth weapon.

    BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM

    YOURMOTHERSHOT.

    Sorry, I couldn't resist.
    That's great.
We may need to nerf nukes just because having too many of the particle effects will empty whole servers. :p

Decals have a bad tendency to cover everything if they're too large. It probably wouldn't be worth it. Though at least for testing you can copy a decal and set the decalscale to a huge value to see what happens.
