It's not actually as terrible as you first think. There was an idea to convert the skill system in a points cost, so that we don't have to try and make each skill be worth the same amount. Instead, some could simply cost more than others. The extension of this idea was that you might be able to get skills from other classes for triple/quadruple the cost. It wasn't really thought about much, the main emphasis was on the idea that something such as healing upgrade might cost 5 points, while revive might cost 20.
No because of engineer with defusal. Edit: Although Trickster's thing might work, I guess it depends on how many points you get on a rank up, or however points are acquired.
Would prolly only ever be used on conquest maps, but that could make em funner. fuck you trickster do this shit now
What makes this suggestion terrible is he's not even trying to explain his idea with detail, and why would this bring any good to the game. The idea itself is actually pretty decent. I would actually support this suggestion if you can balance it well. You know how long it would take for an above average player to get 60 points? 25~35 minutes. This number is educated. It would be pointless if you make some skills practically unavaliable for most players(like the currently fourth skill.)
Hurray for noone taking revive ever. Just wtf. I though the main reason for not trying anything new was because its "complex already".
Let's count them: Cooling(1) + Speed(2) + Armor (2) + Defusal (2) = 7 Remember my proposal stated that out of class skills cost twice as much skill points/slots. Really the only thing that would be op (massively also) would be an engineer with hide/revive as has already been mentioned.
So you mean double the slot cost, not double the rank cost. You have a knack for giving suggestions where no one knows what the fuck you mean.
... Sure. Anyway, this suggestion is bad simply because if a game should do anything with a class system, it should diversify it. It should not seek to make the class that you choose ultimately moot since another class could do the same thing. aw man I took it seriously again Not saying that its ideal as it is, but its pretty good right now. People go rifle to deal with infantry, gren to deal with vehicles, and engie to support and destroy buildings. Additionally, they are all relatively versatile and capable of doing significant damage such that low server population doesn't completely ruin the game. Look at me, responding to things I don't think need responding to again. Yay me
Then what are the rank costs? How many points does it take to get your "7th" skill? Are we talking 10, 30, 60, 100, 150, 210, 280, 360, 450, ... ? Or maybe 10, 30, 60, 70, 90, 120? Or even 20, 60, 120 to earn the out-of-class skills? The imprecision of your initial post leaves the door open to a number of schemes that "double" the cost.
I get why everyone is concerned about hide. When you give it to other classes, it goes from "OP & broken" to "game-molesting." But defusal? I thought mines were so easy to jump over. Why is it an issue if other classes get defusal? You're either an incredible troll and a magnificent moron. I kinda have to pay you some respects either way. Discrete classes exist so one class can have a strength that covers another class's weakness (and vice versa). The point is that even excellent individuals must always be vulnerable. But when you start to give excellent (read: high-scoring) individuals the abilities of other classes, you break down the checks & balances of the class system. There must never be a price of any size that lets you skip out on teamwork.
Implying its not the type of post where "if other people support it - i was serious" "if it gets hate- well obviously i was shitposting" But no, it reeks of troll from a nautical mile.
