Problem with the watchtower idea is that it encourages defence, rather than offence, which is the exact opposite of what I'd like to do.

Armories would be really useful if they were more stronger than they are now, while also being quicker to build.

manned turrets would be pretty sweet.

Imagine you hop in the front lines after building a turret the comm has dropped as he sees the incoming enemy squad plus an apc and you know that the minute you get that puppy built you can rip the infantry down with a +50% addition to the normal turret's capabilities to damage or RoF.

    would be slick. :)

Controlling turrets a la TF2's Wrangler would be neat (and mostly balanced). It would require minimal (any?) art, but I'm sure there are larger technical hurdles behind the scenes.

But that doesn't really encourage offense and I think Lord Trickster wants less turtling.

it doesnt encourage defense either, only protection of bases a little more.

its not like ppl are going to WANT to sit in a turret and wait...that would be so dull.

I'd suggest making everything more offensive and cheap.

    E.G:n low health fast build

and make like a couple of buildings defensive but expensive and slow to build

fast gameplay beats slow game play in any fps imo

If engineers had the ability to instantly drop single wall segment as if they were placing cameras/turrents then that would be totally boss. Of course they would still retain their ability of placing down long walls, but single segments would be quite the useful. Maybe use a different model like sandbags or something.

    Edit: I cannot read.

It's only one thread, and people like to go over their old ideas. If you want new ideas, we have an entire board dedicated to it!

what i wanted to say is that most of them are too big changes to ever get implemented in empires, thus they got discussed to death over the years.
the crux is, it would need exactly such big interference with the game mechanics to target empires gameplay issues.

it would need empires 3.0 - a complete rewrite from scratch.
