Currently there is way too little activity to warrant so many subforums (Many of which have not seen posts in months). And the amount of categories hampers navigation and makes the layout look bad. My suggestion is to cull the amount of subforums and reduce it to a more readable number. New layout: Dev Section: Coding (including plugins and scripting) Art Mapping World Building (Old Storyline) Moderation (Not public) Community Section: News General (merge of Gameplay and General. Would include application and event schedule thread) Feedback/Suggestions Support Off Topic (Non-Empires related) This would reduce the current amount of subforums from 22 to 10 (9 for non-moderators/devs), a 60% reduction. Unfortunately moving to different software altogether will have to wait for now, but that can be done after the layout has been tweaked. We'll we're at it, a brighter theme would be nice as well. (Though Ill reserve that for another thread)
even though i barely ever see the start page since i bookmarked the new posts button, cleaning up a bit certainly is a good idea
Sure, why not. A thought: why wouldn't event schedule be a news section item? I feel like that's something I would consider news.
Yeah. Obviously "sensitive" security and steamworks stuff would be discussed/worked on by the core team elsewhere. (Already happening) But the coder section would be open for all. Well, we're going to redo how events will be displayed. Both on the website and in-game. There will be a separate event schedule both on the front page (of the forums) and in the in-game menu. I personally want to wait a bit with creating a news thread for events as we're still figuring out how to manage everything effectively.
A little clean-up is good and make the light forum theme the default one. The dark blue theme makes people angry and depressive.
and then expand the number of sub forums if activity increases? it seems really unnecessary. who cares if one sub forum hasnt been posted in for a month. not to mention theres no bug section in your suggestion, and thats just from a cursory view
wow you couldnt give it a single day for people to comment before you changed shit. its literaly been 12 hours
I honestly don't think this is useful or necessary. The old layout had everything laid out quite clearly, activity or not.
It's already been discussed through steam, and with fellow developers, Tama (co-lead) and the forum administrators/owners. Besides. We can always undo it.
The forum does look nicer with less sub-forums but I think the Gameplay and the Clan sub-forums should be implemented somewhere. The gameplay sub-forum has a lot of useful resources(even if some of it is outdated) and it's also the only place to discuss gameplay while the clan sub-forum is fairly important even if clans are dead since it has all the best drama in empires.
I'm planning to somehow merge the gameplay forum content into the general one. I think ill make the clan section a subforum of the general one for now.
The event schedule will be integrated at the top of forum eventually. For now we'll use the event thread in General.
well then why make the topic at all if you've already discussed it also i lost access to the dev forums in this forum move somehow. i posted the escort vmf in there and i need to give it to ddd for him to recompile it
