Don't worry bodrick, we still love you. And personaly i like these more than the old ones. Maybe i got tired of seeing that same color over and over again. This feels ... well more professional, less like a boring 1-color pong or pacman style effect.
Make the random death (fall/drown/whatever) into a detailed hand of god crushing a little soldier, as in; act of god?
Gotta be honest i prefer the current orange block-icon because, as all well designed huds should have, they are easy to distinguish at-a-glance. I'm say ing the icons are "bad", ironically just too detailed. Additionally in dark areas those coloured/detailed icons would almost certainly not show up well. Apologies if this has been previously raise on the other 3 pages, but though it worth my two-euros.
what will the additive thing do? as a very daft question, could they fit onto the original silhouettes (obviously with a mild scale change to make the back one visible)? that way you get a background to make it visible, the colour for info and to some extent the shape for quick info - whilst keeping the more interesting picture bit.
Ironically, it actually shows up best in dark areas with additive :p It's the bright areas where it is hard to see them. That's how it is now though, as well, so whatever :p
What he said , also you could just give the icons a colored border so you can see them. I like the sound of more detailed vehicle icons, and icons for different death types.
Ok, I'm going to see if I can do a black outline, but a coloured inside, then just do a 75% transparancy, and see how that turns out. I've put in seperate MG/ML and BE/NF turret kills, and I'm also going to do a running over, and a melee one as well. They will have to be coded in though.
Other people have said exactly the same, but i still don't understand how that's even possible. Agreed, it may be harder to see them compared to some background colors, but more details make them so much more easy to identify. I never liked those puzzle's in children books in which you have to put the correct shadows and objects together. If i see an orange shape all i can see is if it's a mine or a rifle. I have no clue about what specific weapon shot me down. Yes, an option to choose between silhouettes and these aren't bad. btw isn't orange used in cs source as well? we could at least change the color to something that fits a good mod
The silhouettes are the color of the killer's team. They're easy to distinguish because of their shapes. If you have lots of detail which catches the eye instead of the shape of the weapon, it will take longer to be recognized.
Then I guess it has to be some intelligence problem of mine, because i seriously have no problem with knowing what weapon killed me if i see what weapon killed me, while with only a silhouette i have to try and remember all weapons, try to picture all of them from a sideview in my mind, and then try to guess which one resembles the silhouette the most. Most people think like you guys do, but i can't, not in a thousand years, understand how a shadow of an object resembles an object more than the object itself? And noone ever gave me a good explanation. I think you are all mutants :D
I'm hating the black border background thingy But this icon in the old way (no background, transparent or whatever is applied to it) would look awesome.
