As I hate Iron sights with a passion I have not been using them. That has been good.
With the new update, the NF AR needs to use iron sights. I tried them out, the problem is simple.
The aiming thing works fine, I think... maybe... well anyways it the problem is when you shoot, the muzzle flash covers your screen and you can't see a thing.
I am very sure, as in very very sure, once the massive flash is removed I can see what I am shooting.
Is there any way you can lower the flash while in iron sights?

*I know having a flash happens in real life, but I don't know many weapons now a days that use iron sights. The massive flash and the iron sights are unrealistic, but you can live with one, but having both makes the iron sight... less useful as it can be.*

The muzzle flash is nowhere near as noticible in real life, (unless its dark) and basically every gun ever made has ironsights.

But yeah, it makes it hard to see.

yeah, i have to aim at someone, start shooting in burst, and look at the right display hoping to see my name displayed having killed the other guy. Offcourse if he moves an inch i'll miss him and don't even know about it :D

I know that, but the main way you aim if allowed is a scope. I miss the old scope from 1.07, where the scope was on the weapon I don't know, but I miss it.

It wouldn't hurt to scale the muzzleflash down a bit, but it is going to cover your ironsight no matter what, shoot in bursts and you'll get used to it in time.

I don't mind the flash on the NF rifle AS MUCH because it's so much easier to see out of the NF ironsights then it is the BE. I have full peripheral vision when not firing. Whereas the BE ironsights are such that I can't see to the immediate left and right of where I'm aiming so if the target moves, I'm shit out of luck. Also much of the lower part of the screen is blocked. I find BE much more difficult to use; I rarely use ironsights when I'm BE as opposed to using them sometimes when I'm NF. Reducing the BE flash would be fair balancing, in my opinion.

Maybe the NF weapons should get less muzzle flash, but instead heat up to the point the heat distorts light and everything gets wavey?

Don't know if this is implementable, but you'd sure as hell avoid a hot gun.

True. With nf weapons you also can't see were you're shooting at because of the flash, but at least you know you're missing the enemy when you see him appearing left or right of the weapon. Lowering the flash (at least on BE weapons) will make them A LOT more usefull. Complaints about the weaponmodel being a pain in the ass will decrease. I think this would be a small and easy fix that solves a rather annoying problem.

    aw poor Krenzo...
anyways is this even code related? is it not just something the modeller has to change?

Muzzleflashes are sprites, so it's art-related.

yeah I figured something like that was the case.. so we just need a modeller willing enough to tweak the flashes a bit :)

Sprites are 2D images, not models.

Agreed, i can't see why people where wetting themselves over the inclusion of iron-shites for 1.08; In practise, for me, iron sight on only vaguely useful if used in tandem with Accuracy upgrade... but then you may as well not use iron-sights!

it's also, in my opinion, the number one reason why to use the heavy MG. you get the good accuracy without needing to ironsight.

then again, I guess perhaps because I am not used to the BE iron sights, i dont fight them a huge pain. I do find a huge pain when the enemy DOESN'T move and you're ironsighted bullet hose doesn't kill you. and then their grenadier pistol does. :\

perhaps incement shot accuracy is too poor, because the small value that it is is amplified by the rate that that thing can spit bullets.

The new weapons changed kind of needs them for long distances, as in Escort in the second flag as NF shooting the other people on the ramp.

I've used iron sights with the nf ar with succes. imo the settings are fine. The only thing i'd like to see changed is having a smaller muzzleflash. I'm almost certain that with being able to see decent (view only limit by the model, not the sprite) iron sight will be a lot better already. I can be wrong though, but that's what i think. Can't i just remove the sprite from a folder or something to test what effect it has, or will that make the game crash?

    EDIT:
Ok i'm lost. I removed the two muzzleflash sprites and restarted steam. I didn't notice any difference when firing.

Well, for one thing you have the wrong files there are four of them. You can try my replacements here. :)

I haven't actually got to see them in action (stupid new update), but from the screenshots (thanks ROOR) they seem to be at least a small improvement over the current ones.

EDIT: Now that I can play, I can tell it is PERFECT in ironsighted mode. Out of ironsighted mode is a different story. :/

Maybe the advantage of the BEAR (and it's huge size) is greatly reduced muzzleflash.

The flash doesn't obstruct the BEAR at all now, but does for the NFAR a little bit. (not badly though)

Plus it looks cooler. :) I'll have pics in a few minutes. :D

Now the only problem is that it looks like utter shit on everything else. :/

And don't ask me what the hell jcw is talking about. XD
