In Anarchy Online you can go into what is known as real roleplaying politics, you can be level 1 and infact may die from donkeysperm, but you'll have power, you can even become the mayor of a city (I think it's only Newland for now?), and in Anarchy Online you have a profession (class) named "Bureaucrat", whom sort of lack in combat abilities, and completely have advantage in team situations, leadership, namely.
a storyline does matter, and a normal rpg, you reach a point in the game where you've kind of finished the game, I believe this is called the end.
MMORPGs never end, but in AO you make your own storyline, you can become loved, hated, with factions eventually, and players depending on your behaviour. You can go into politics, be a classic warrior, or be a user of technology to wreak havoc. Limitless possibilities. And depending on victories and losses of factions in game, the whole storyline of the game is adjusted.
I can make my own storyline in notepad, I dont need to pay 12 dollars a month to do that... the possibilities are limitless, even better is, i can do a lot more in notepad, I can code a website, or a javascript game, I can write a resume and get a job, I can write a business plan an become insanely rich, and this all applies to real life! Notepad is even compatible with ANY e-mail or program that has text input. THERES NO LIMIT TO WHAT YOU CAN DO IN DIZZYONE's NOTEPAD REMAKE, BUY NOW AND BECOME A HERO
Hmm missed this thread.. I used to play City of Heroes, but then it got mega repetitive and no real bonus once you got to the end. Now I play EVE Online, have done for about 6 months, and still love it. As for the whole "Why do you pay to play a game?" Well, it's the making a name for yourself by any way you want. Most people get all hyped up by the fact that if you do something great, then someone might spread the word and you'll be one of the famous interweb heroes. On the otherhand, some people just play it because it's something to do with their friends, a social experience for the socially challenged, one might say. It's just a hobby, like going to football matches, going to see a band, etc.
