New here, hello. Got myself a copy of HL2 some while ago and just today found this cool looking mod. I installed HL into it's original directory and did the same with this thing. Now I hate steam, let me just say this. So when I had to use it to start the game I got a bit frustrated. When I got the damn thing running, after I installed Empires (Like the manual said to do) There wasn't any application to start Empires anywhere. I've tried looking everywhere, it's annoying, but I can't find any way of starting Empires.
Is this folder structure correct: program files/steam/steamapps/sourcemods/empires/gameconfig.txt Did you restart steam? Are you sure HL2 is installed via steam?
Yes to all except Half Life wasn't installed through Steam. I hate Steam so I opted to find a way around it. (that was bad wasn't it?)
actually you dont really need HL2 to be installed as long as you have it registered and you can dl the orangebox SDK thingy (dunno do we still need the standard base SDK?)
You need a source game off steam. If you have HL2 installed seperately [cough]pirate[/cough] then it's not going to work. You need at least one source game installed, be it HL2, TF2, CSS or anything else.
Just fucking install HL2 via steam. Steam isn't the sack of crap that many people argue it is. Back at HL2s release it was, but it's much much better now.
I would do that but I'm lazy and poor. It's a stupid excuse but it's true. I'd rather scour the internet for a chance to play it without steam and regardless of what other people think of it, I hate the damn thing.
Have a happy search. You might be able to start the game, but then I'm pretty sure VAC or something else will deal with you. Stop being lazy and buy the game.
You know if you are smart enough you can get hl2 free? When orange box was released many people were giving away hl2 because they already had it And don't start about being poor.
1) Impossible to start without steam. 2) I have a feeling he installed a "Less than legitimate version" of HL2.
