I agree with everything you've said there. The gcf still has a lot of space left, let's fill some of those zeros with awesomeness.
Chain is an awesome map, but like King, suffers from the complexity. But maybe it can get learnt. Palmbay I definitely want in, due to the way it handles low playercount. And idk, I always felt Territory, Dune and Plunge (i.e. all 3 of Bumgravy's maps) were really solid gameplay maps, even if they weren't necessarily the prettiest. But again, Chain, Midbridge and King, all suffer from being unplayable below 40 players, which no currently official maps do. In my honest opinion, covering a broad range of playercounts is one of the most important aspects of an official map, so that servers can use a stock cycle and not end up emptying the server because a map came on at the wrong playercount. Either way, I'd rather have more than 21 (so we can say 20+! official maps etc) official maps, so I think that gives us room for 6. Palmbay will be one, no doubt. If I had to choose personally, based off good looking maps that, regardless of gameplay, play at a good variety of playercounts, I'd say: Palmbay Glacial Homeland Re-textured Forest Raiders A non-blimpflag version of Tropic Vendetta Alpinerush if players didn't hate it Re-textured version of Territory Dune Re-textured version of Plunge Eastborough Probably some others, but above all, I really want to emphasise that you could make a cycle with those maps + official maps, and not require any extra plugins to have a cycle that appeals from 0 to 64 players, and that's what's important for an official map.
yea good stuff, I like dune and I cant believe I forgot Palmbay, see there are so many out there if you really look at it. I meant snowbound, cause I actually like the ice, and I like the layout, it's pretty much coast with fortresses (that are sick as hell) also, Eastborough, for serious. and Homeland should be a no brainer right? what's the prob? is it broken? same goes for blah, tell Mayama to quit listening to Gotye while he strokes his cat and fix it.
Homeland has some weird issues with commanders crashing. I've never had it myself but I've seen it happen to a lot of commanders. Also, I don't think anyone can contact the original mapper and find the VMF, although I'll try to do that. Lamer, if Railway actually plays alright and ends up with a 3D skybox, then it's certainly an option. I'm genuinely not trying to be offensive here, but I'd prefer slightly lower standard maps that play at low playercounts, than super high quality maps that can't be used under 40 players. Blah looks kind of weird, like most of Mayama's maps. I do enjoy it but it's a bit starcrafty for what I'd generally expect. I just sometimes think it's only really as good as it is because I can climb onto the hills and ninja round, so I'd need to see if it had the same appeal if I couldn't do that, which I obviously shouldn't be able to.
I actually like doing mad spins on it in a light tank, I get very sad when it gets broken isn't railway disgustingly unbalanced cause BE is way up on that hill>?
That's railroad. That map is fun, but like Frozen summit, essentially boils down to duststorm with the hills. A little bit of urban combat in the middle but that's about it. Railway is a flat-ish map and it's much smaller.
GOD DAMMIT JUST PUT KING IN ALREADY. FUuuuuuuuck. Put some screenshots of king up on moddb and bam people will be jerking off to our page.
1. extend mapcycle.txt to include min. #players 2. skip map if required num. players > server population 3. enjoy 4vs4+8 24/7.
I'd suggest freshening up the colours in blah and forest. That dusk orange look is just so nauseating. @Ducky that's what the current system does, at least on EPIC.
If you're going to make Blah official, you might want to consider removing that weird-ass color change that happens sometimes. On some rounds it doesn't happen, on others it happens every ten minutes, and whenever it happens it confuses the fuck out of people.
