Make nukes less of a joke weapon

    Right now, nuclear warheads are in Empires. They are really cool and do a bunch of damage. Also right now, they are downright useless in a real game.
    They cost 3K to research, takes 180 seconds, and they deal next to no damage based on the cost/weight.
    My suggestion is to decrease cost of nuke research to 1.4-1.5K and make the nukes deal 200 damage again.
    Right now nukes only deal 150 damage, 1/2 less than a riflemen sticky nade. Nukes are also useless against tanks for overheating, as 150 damage is nothing on the bigger tanks.
    I have never seen nukes used in a real match besides a gag weapon or 1.073 Escort.

    Pro's
    Nukes will be used for real (AKA Nukes will not just be a gag weapon).
    Nukes will not over overpowered.

    Con's
    People will rush nukes.
    Fast money servers, nukes will be overpowered.

    Right now nukes are more of a "lulz my team is winning so much that we can have missles that kill entire packs of infantry around the base from long range". I say increase damage, or leave damage as is, and make them guided. :D

    I say what ever happens Nukes should be identifyable from a distance aka new model. and the explosion should be a single frame of white and a deep wooom! sound with rushing wind.

    Thats nice, but what the hell does it have to deal with making nukes useful?

    I do agree nukes should look cooler though, so I am not against this idea.

    I agree, nukes are seen as just a waste of time and money. It also is a bit of an unbalance when the NF are stuck going for nukes and the BE already have double rails. I have noticed reacently though that comms are going for Homing and Salvo to counter BE but its still a bit of an unbalance.

    anyway, nukes should be this huge missile that kills everything without making it an "I Win!" weapon. It should expedite a win, not win the game itself. Nukes already can be countered with biodiesel and some rockets, as the enemy tanks arent gonna be very well armored, they should kick more ass.

    I really don't get the basis in any real sense for the nuke. Ff it was a sub critical TAC nuke attached to a missile it would be uberdeadly within a area (super high temperatures and a shockwave that could flip tanks) and deadly on line of sight exposure to infantry. Right now it is more like a anti infantry missile (Like a missile version of the bomb in Swordfish)
    I completely agree. make it a one shot long reload time inaccurate ACTUAL nuke. for a good example of how it would work check out the garrysmod nuke mod.

    Or, because its ahuge warhead on a slighty-bigger rocket, it has a drop, like a cannon but slower.

    Well nukes are already the slowest motherf* out there...

    I agree; no one gets them; because for that price, hell you can make alot of tank for that...

    solution: Increase nuke damage significantly so the whopping 3000 res ressearch is justified

    or keep nukes as is; but reduce the cost to 1000...

    I also think nukes need to be improved. Nukes indeed are a joke atm.

    hmm.. I like that nukes shouldn't be a missile but, that would make money map a sh*tier map than it already is.(nukes dropping all over the Fing place)

    (warning idea stealing inside)
    Currently nukes only over heat tanks and kill troops+turrets thats about it. They need more damage. Perhaps instead of calling them nukes we call them tactical nukes and raise the damage to 300, raise the load time 3-8 seconds more, lower the explosive radius 20%, and give them a 1 1/2 sized heavy missile that slowly drops with distance(put a shark face on the front of the missile to make the newbs wet there pants). I would also like to see nukes weigh a bit more. If your going to haul this baby you need backup. I would also put forth that the tac nukes NOT do more damage to buildings keeping it at 150.

    Pros:
    • The slowly dropping missile helps prevent long distance nuke spamming.
    • 2x More damage
    • Longer reload helps prevent abuse

    Cons:
    • People who can't understand how to adjust there targeting will miss with the tac nukes
    • Nukes used more often
    • More tanks die due to nukes(perhaps a nuke death icon would be AWESOME)

    Nukes are a niche weapon.

    They are there to break turtle shells when you can't use arty for whatever reason, that's all.

    That's an opinion. Not a fact.
    Besides there useless as 'anti-turtle' weapons.
    They should really be something useful for the money and time it takes to get them.

    People forget here that nukes are the worst weapon against infantry.

    Get two nuke tanks in a safe distance and aim for enemy barracks. = Enemy infantry neutralized from that area.

    Personally I would lower their cost max. to 2000 and keep the damage as it is.

    Nukes kill infantry units very easily near a building which they are repairing so it is easy to take down, for example, a barracks or vehicle factory even engineers try to repair it and others try to take down the nuke tanks and other tanks when you have another tank besides you with cannons.

    No, it's a fact, that's why they are so expensive.

    You can only use them when the enemy isn't fielding tanks, as packing a nuke puts your tank at a disadvantage (as as soon as the enemy realise you're using them they'll just use bio and kick your arse) and you can only afford to research them if you have lots of cash to spare, i.e you control all the map.

    They're actually very good anti-turtle weapons, on a par with a skilled arty player except you can spam the fuck out of them, they're very good for dealing with turret farms and infantry hiding in buildings, which are the twin pillars of turtle defences.

    You can use arty if you want, or you can use nukes, and nukes are often better because you can just shoot from the other side of the map and there's bugger all the enemy can do about it, and you stand a good chance of killing a bunch of infantry too, while arty tends to just level the structure.

    Hullo.

    Only been on the forums for a short time but I've been playing Empires for a while... Just my two cents. I agree with the "Make it artillery" for the nukes.

    Kinda like the C&C: Generals Chinese Nuclear Artillery. Heavy damage and a larger Area of Effect (To make it worth the res), if possible add a radiation effect after it explodes (seriously hurts infantry/overheats tanks while it's there) for a short period of time, etc.

    A slow firing, slow moving, heavy parabolic projectile only firable from Artillery Chassis (and Cannons).

    I have no problems with the damage, heat, or force of nukes, my problem is shooting a missile, driving up beside it to watch to fly sideways or something.

    Nukes need to be accurate for how god awful slow they are. Nothing like shooting a nuke and it hits some random piece of wall that is way off to the left, overheating yourself instead of anything within 5 miles of where you intended for it to hit.

    Nukes are not a practical weapon for tank combat, no matter what you do. They are support weapons just like about every other physics weapon available. Plasma MG's and cannons can stop a rush, but they'll never kill anything. Nukes could just be renamed plasma missiles :P

    Make researching nukes also enable mini-nukes to be carried on jeeps... MAKE THEM USEFUL! (The nukes and the jeep of course)

    Of course we could have bomb trucks as well ---

    If nukes are accurate, then you could rocketsnipe with them, an issue that occured widely in earlier versions.
    As for bomb trucks, it would never work, we had a sort of bomb truck (mines sticking to jeeps), but after 30 minutes of testing it, it was removed. That's also why mines don't stick to vehicles.
