that first pic makes me wonder if you have a shitty video card. Its working really hard just to render buildings? That and it says particles are beating the shit out of it. What particles do you see besides the tiny smoke? Don't tell me thats your problem.
For the record particles have always been using a large portion of the budget and I haven't figured out why.
I do have a crappy video card, but like many others, there was a significant drop in fps from 2.24-2.25. I used to average 25-40 on med-high settings, now I average 10-25 no matter what settings. Im just putting more data in so maybe what ever is causing it can be figured out.
I think it's something to do with how antialiasing interacts with particles but nobody has ever made any attempts to work with me when I've requested people mess with settings and report fps changes.
Well when I turn AA it kills my FPS ridiculously (more than it should) I think there's a correlation but nobody will do jack shit to help so you can all get fucked.
There's only a few things I've neglected to test and those are the ones that fade a particle away when it takes up 50% of the screen, but the lag isn't because of particles in your face, it's been a constant drain and I have no fucking idea why.
I will admit I too have had a drop of 20 fps from 2.24 to 2.25 but, im doing on average 60fps now so its not too much of a bother.
so in empires you raised the gfx settings and you got better fps? or was it out of empires you raised settings?
Anything I can do to help? I don't use AA though, it's too heavy on my machine, well at least for a regular game - most things are on for the testing server. I remember you said this before and a few of us reported how things were...do you want to make a thread with lists of things you want tested? That'd be cool.
I have AA to max on my settings. When I first turned them up I found out it made virtually no change(fps) so I left them that way. That was several versions ago tho. Ill give it a try later tonight and find out if it makes a huge diff.
I'm using the default VGUI and my FPS was much better so I could make the settings higher and I it's actually stable.
if you have problems, its best to try without AA first i dont know if its AA, but some other small mods i used to follow also complained about source being a b*ch in fps when AA was turned up
