Hi, since im a bit noobish at the aspect of mines in emp, id like to hear a bit about them, like do they blow up if a friend/foe walks over them, whats with vehicles and so on?
and i think i saw them sometimes explode without anyone walking on them while planting a minefield, what went wrong? and can i use them like the Spec ops charges in BF2? do they have some activation time, e.g. like a enemy tanks drives into my direction and i plant a mine and he just drives over it without anything, and maybe some more tips?

    Welcome to the forums!

Mines blow up if an enemy walks/drives over them, but are not affected by friends. If a grenadier also has the mine defusal skill, they cannot set off enemy mines if they walk over them or a driving a vehicle. You can only lay 8 mines at once, if you lay more than that your first mine will blow up, taking other mines with it. This is a common way to destroy the CV. I don't think the mines have any activation time, just as soon as they stop bouncing. If you change class, your mines just dissapear without exploding

I think thats everything, hope to have helped :)

oh also if someone elses mines blow up nearby your mines, yours will blow up, possibly causing you to blow up if you are nearby your mines at the time :D

ahh, thats why i always died, cause i almost always have the ammo upgrade:D wont happen again to me... so if i put 8 mines in an enemy building and put down another 8 somewhere else, theyll blow up causing dmg to the building? bit of a replacement for the missing satchels.... and by the way, how much dmg do mortar and rpg? which one does more? how many do i need to kill like, some barracks?

110 damage for a dead on mortar shot. 80 for a rocket. 100 for a mine. I believe buildings have like 1000 or so health. Normally I drop 8 mines in the middle of a barracks or in the middle of a vf where the tanks go. I wait and hide till someone spawns or a vehicle spawns and trips the mines. Then I normally hit it out with 2 mortars. What you said about the 8 mines thing is. You can only have 8 mines placed at a time. No more. Or else your first mine blows up. Limiting you to 8 mines at any given time on the playing field. If you don't know how many mines you have laid, you can always switch classes and get a fresh 8 to be placed elsewhere.

When placing mines to defend an area, I recommend that you don't just place them as fast as possible, because if you do that then the mines will be in range of eachother, so setting one off will set the lot off. which means that you will get only 1 kill. space them out for the opportunity to get several kills.

also; always place mines if you are about to die or see vehicles comming your way. you can still get the kill even if you die before the mine has been set off.

Plant mines at both ends of an enemy's barracks :D Works every single time.

Mines placed inside buildings can't be defused, that's why the barracks trick "works every single time" :p

And because newly spawned players just run out as quickly as they can :p Four mines on each entrance=lots of points.

ooh err, no wonder people were never happy with my run into the vf and put stuff down (other than fun blowing up new tanks). why can't they be defused?

I do something even more evil: put mines on and around ammo boxes on escort. When server is full you can hear big KABOOM from time to time.

Although saying that, somebody thought I did that on the BSID server the other day. I was lagging, and when I recovered everyone was dead (including me). Very frustrating.

The best tactic is to simply watch where you are stepping, particularly in cramped places. People often put their mines back in the same place, so remember where they are.

Pressing the "Use" key while looking straight at a mine that is placed inside a building doesn't register as looking at it. Instead, the game registers it as looking at and attempting to use the building itself. Probably has something to do with the way a mine embeds itself into whatever surface it's dropped on.

Even more evil, I drop 8 mines along the wall at the 3rd spawn as nf, and no one usually trips them because they are soo close together. I wait for Grim Gribber to take his nuke/arty tank next to it, 9th mine him. Last night I did it twice, but before i could drop my 9th mine I guess someone on his team would always trip it and blow him up.

When you're running forward, you generally have to not be paying attention at all to run over a mine. however, it's VERY easy to hit a mine, even one you know about, when side straffing.

drop a mine, retreat, and then keep an oponeant at bay with your weapons while they're around the mine, and so easily will they blow themselves (and any engineers trying to heal them) apart. and it's the way I land on mines 80% of the time.

    Goose is the mining MASTER.

Seriously, he can use those damn mines not as traps, but as tactical devices; claymore style.

Thanks Beer, but I consider myself a mining ass. Cause when I get mines, no one likes to play with me. We'll when im in their base with mines, they dont likes to spawn, create a vehicle, or walk into their radar.
