Is Empires dead, dying, or just on hold...

Krenzo has basically said in the past:

And you're impatient now: do you have any IDEA how long we were waiting to get our grubby little mits on the first 1.08 (now 2.0) RCs??

I remember my first post was in the news section asking what very close meant. A few weeks or what ?. I thought it might get out before my 6 weeks of vacation was over. From that point to getting into the tester group, to the actual release was more than 6 months I think, maybe a lot more. So all guesstimating on 3.0 is a bit useless.

If anything I think planes needs even more testing and balancing than 2.0 did.

I want to be optimistic about it, but it could take a very long time. Krenzo might get some coding assignments that pays money :eek:. Or maybe theres a female that demands a lot of attention .

If we a getting less players, I think it might help if there was a map pack release. If it gets on fileplanet and so on we might see a small surge of new people.

 

empires is getting bigger and bigger.almost every day someone joins the forums so I dont think we need to worry about that.

the forums may be getting bigger, but that's just so they can post a suggestion or 3 then go away from the forums. The servers still say at the same population as they have been, which is 1 or 2 populated servers

Even if the mod does lose players it won't be the end of the world, because when a new version comes out it brings people back.
So if you think about it, each new version makes the mod more and more popular each time. :D

 

i suppose, but but seing that 3.0 is so far away, new verions wont help much. but small releases WILL help. and if not new weapons, , then new maps will help. the training server gets new maps sometimes, but its the training server, it may be popular but its not serious empires really.

 

I would like to see small releases adding new weapons, research and stuff.
This would really good with implementing some community ideas.

 

Empires was fun even when there were only 50 people playing total across all timezones. It just took more coordination to plan PUG events.

 

Basically, you guys are missing the major points here. Weapons and research take quite a while to balance, and the main reason it's not being done is that work is being done on the port over to the OB code. It might actually be possible to do those kind of updates, but if they are done it means that nothing else ever will be...so at the end of the day, the mod will get stuck in the 2.xx phase.

Just be patient for a while...I have a feeling that in a couple of months, Krenzo will have found his feet* and the devs will have a little more time to work on the mod.

i don't agree with the new weapons and guns, but new maps certainly. emp_midbridge and emp_sinking/atol revived my passion for empires. Get Solokiller to wip something up quickly

Megel is going to graduate school. I'm about to start college to get a degree for myself. We all have bills to pay and food to buy. Empires is not a source of income, and we've all already put 5 years of our lives into it. What more do you people want?
