classic maps are maps where there's a commander, you have to capture ref points, and both teams have the ability to make tanks.

Terrible point, seeing as how we can't play it. When it was working we always played it.

 

Crossroads doesn't count not because it's not played regularly but because turrets screw up infantry combat before vehicles do.

Empires has been stuck with the same GUI for 5 years, and we're laughing at Nuclear dawn, why?

Nuclear dawn, or at least the people developing it, aren't perfect, but they do have love for their product and are making a commercial decision that they feel is best. Their decision was also influenced by valve, and valve are pretty damn big. To have them give advice on financial matters is not something to shy away from, as their current financial estimates show a higher profit gain than apple or microsoft.

Empires on the other hand is stuck with m00tant who's only developing empires so he can put it on a resume. He has no love of the product, nor does he respect the people who play it.

I love how the three of the most prominent raging players (Chris, Mayama and HSM) actually have mature opinions about Nuclear Dawn, while everyone else, including the Empires developers are going "LOL U SUCK".

Here's the deal. The only reason people play Empires is because there is no better alternative.
Infantry combat sucks balls. The maps are made for vehicles, not infantry. The vehicles have shitty handling. The maps look nothing like real, or at least realistic locations. The maps where infantry can win against vehicles are considered "broken" or "gimmicky". Escort isn't a map, it's 3 hours of torture for either team.

So when ND devs say "we want to rather make an RTS FPS that is good, balanced, and no vehicles, instead of shitty feature-inflated lag game" this community rejoices. I'd say most of you idiots are very closeminded.

 

I'm not disagreeing with NDs production methods, but I'm laughing my ass off that they plan to release vehicles as an expansion pack.

Just run beta testing longer, fuckin' retards.

 

I laugh at them because they released 0 playable content in the years they worked on it, both as a mod team and as a commercial team (the mod team being the biggest wtf, I can understand the commercial team). Still, it remains eerily quiet around a game that is "the perfect fusion of FPS and RTS" or whatever it's called. The only video I've ever seen of it has a few guys running around and a turret turning 180 degrees, so pardon my scepticism.

 

I've got to agree with hsm but you seem way off. infantry combat in empires is much more exciting than combat in cod4 or tf2 or insurgency. Vehicle combat may be like bumpercars but at least they handle well, can do stunts and are fun to drive. Empires is a great game, greater than ND but it needs some aesthetic polishing. A better GUI and more serious looking content (away from the cartoonish design scheme we have now)

 

Not really. Nuclear Dawn is just a basic fps with a wacky angle and I don't get why it gets so much attention on these forums.

Then again this is the forum that goes crazy over Bad Company 2, Black Ops, and Crysis 2.
