Minimalist HUDs have been vogue for several years and for good reason. Now developers are beginning to add art and flare to their HUDs, such as the sculpted designs seen in halo 3, probably started with that star wars clone commando game. Opaque, area-of-screen demanding (as opposed to piecemeal per bit of information Opacity a-la TF2, which give the illusion of a full screen without HUD) HUDs havn't really been done for years. They simply reduce the playable usable attractive area of the screen. This is why the translucent HUD is better. it brings our mod from looking really really out of date to merely looking rather out of date. And if you think this is all theory, the truth is that the HUD, being one of the first things the player interacts with, really give an impression of the mod out. amature HUD -> amature game. I know people turned away from WoW because of the HUD. It's all stats and not enough explosive gameplay.
Why? Because YOU don't like it. You are a coder, the GUI doesn't even affect you. It affects everyone else, and everyone else wants it. At the very worst, it becomes official and someone uploads the old GUI as an alternative to install. I really do worry if you can't even muster the brainpower it would require to process this very simple information: There is no work required from you. It looks better.
*bite me* (I'll admit flight sims have been doing that for years prior, and nobody actually takes their inspiration from them... But I can dream.)
although i use nesquicko's GUI, i advocate against using it as is official i would prefer if devs finally cross the bridge of recoding the GUI, even if it ends up with the same GUI as we have now (the blue one, stock) but with under the hood improvements on customisation (so people can make there own GUI's, including adding and removing buttons etc, something TRUELY customisable) but then again... dreams etc
lol.... Realism is for pansies. Frankly, I couldn't really care less about transparency. However, here are the golden rules of good GUI design. 1) Easy to find information you need (ease of use). 2) Have all information you need (completeness). 3) Not have any information you don't need (elegance). 4) Still be able to see stuff/execute what you need to do (non-intrusive). Transparency can pseudo help with rule 4. However, the major problem is mostly the other rules.
The current one is shitty and nesquack's looks way better.. But he's an idiot, so please don't include it.. No one likes him.
I'm entirely indifferent, I am used to bad HUDs, include it or don't, but I would suggest going with popular opinion if it is heavily in favour of inclusion.
If people can install the custom GUI from the forums, i'm guessing that including it in the mod is essentially putting the files in the right places.
yes it is. We just need a non mootant and non kane volenteer. Also if a few of those icons could be cleened up it would help the image.
I think that everyone should shut the fuck up , and that we should have the choice between standard and nesquiko. I also think that HSM voice should be available while commanding to give better orders
Xyaminou: That's actually a nice suggestion (the HSM voice stuff). I'll make it an option in NSIS sometimes (when I have qualifying spare time). If you want it faster, pester someone else.
