I havent seen this topic yet, though Ive heard some discussion. How would a Clan Match look, what would the rules be, how many people a side, which maps would be used etc. I know Empires hardly has clans, but if that changed in the future, it would be good to know about a framework on which to proceed. What do you guys think about this?
The regular Team FPS formula would probably not apply here. Team FPS usually play 5v5 to 7v7 for 20-30 minutes and switching sides between rounds. But Empires games take a lot longer than 20-30 minutes and require more than 7 players a team to be any good. Long game times means the teams will probably not be able to play 2 rounds on the same map one after the other, but playing only one round creates balance problems cause most maps have a bias to one team or the other. The games will also require around 10 or 12 players per team to be fun, which means clans will have to be large ponderous beasts compared to the smaller clans that are common in other Team FPS games. Thus, I think games will probably be fought 1 round at a time, with the round lasting around 40mins to an hour and having around 10-12 players per team. Those games will be awesome though, with everyone running to where they are needed, following commander's orders and fighting together. Maybe someone with more experience in this kind of large game can say how they do it in those games?
I've done some trainings with my clan (BSID) with up to 8 clanmembers (amongst the other 24 pubbers). While we played, we never lost, ever. We advanced as a team, advised as a team and completely pwnt the enemy as a team. Engineers were reviving, healing and supplying, Riflemen were pwning the enemy and Grenadiers were keeping tanks and turrets off our backs.
Clan I'm in does very well too. Shows how much of a team game Empires is. I'd think that there would have to be two rounds per map, teams swapping after each round. No timelimit. Probably 3 maps.
I think there will be 2 maps in a clanwar but the main problem is that a war can take up to 4 hours then. When both teams defend well it can take a long time to destroy enemy CV.
hey dude it would look like [Team Douchebag] 0wnz0r1z1ng your ass with a squad of heavily armed attack jeeps. woooahhhhhh
Oh God, I would LOVE to spec a clan game once they get a good spectator system in. Furthermore, with a game as flexible as this, one would think changing the statistics of each match wouldn't necessarily make the match bad or unplayable, as much as it would drastically change the tactics of said match. I mean, I've played smaller games, and it certainly slowed things down, but it really increased the value of turrets, for example. That and a timer would REALLY add a different element to matches (not that they haven't been vetoed before). I can imagine the forward offensive it would create.
I'd think that Empires would be more popular among competetive communities a la Global Conflict, than among the smaller clans, because of the size issue. Roughly, a bunch of players organized into armies that play through in a campain setting. So it's completely organized, and huge, but not quite a clan. 32v32 competetive bf42 battles are fun. :p
there needs to be a NF clan as orgaized as BSID (jerkonion liberation front?) then have a mix of clan/pub matches, say 8 clan members on easch side and as many pub players as join. the clan ppl would be like rangers or seals (in USA) while the pub ppl would be more regular army. of course, if empire clans did get huge and organized then soly clan vs clan matches would be better. and yes, i will no longer be a douchebag if an organized NF clan was established (sorry guys).
On|E prefers to play NF almost exclusively. Hate those stupid nazi tanks. (People's Front of Jekotia)
What would really be great here is a BFE like organization. Players join in, they are assigned either NF or BE, and duke it out for an entire campaign. Each army is assigned a Commander in Chief that chooses where to attack and general organization. The army with the initiative then chooses where to attack which determines the map that is played during that match. The Battle lasts 12 hours while players come and go, and commanders would be assigned to keep the battle organized during that time.
New Idea! I didn't want that thought to die. As impossible as it is, I think that that idea would be incredibly fun. The people in Europe could hand it off to the people in North America. I think this would add a lot of uniquness to the game and the community. I don't see why a server couldn't start doing something like that, on a Sunday for instance. A ready room for instance (which was proposed before, I know) where everyone could chat and find out where the next battle was going to be, would be handy. *Brainstorm - There is a big map of the Empires earth, could each map (eg emp_crossroads) try to place their specific location on that map. Therefore, if a battle by BE is won at crossroads it could move to Escort, which could move to Canyon. That would require some fun admin stuff to cordinate that stuff. Taking the idea further, if/when we have the player base, this war could be fought on multiple servers, with the results coordinated by a central command group. I'm not an XFire master, but does it have properties we could exploit to make this easier? This may be thread hijacking, but it's my own thread, and people were just talking of other games. I think it would be cool to win a battle on money for instance, but hear that our side lost the battle at district so we have to go and fight a different battle now. After the war, the results would be posted here on the forum, main web page, clan pages and maybe the wiki? This is of course living far in the future
While it can be done it requires a TON of resources, you need the stat software to keep track of every single round played, the large servers (BFE had 2 servers, one in EU and one in NA). A good group of leaders to get it all organized, the TeamSpeak server to organize everything, its a lot of work. It can be done, but it requires a lot of dedication from a few people.
