How will the lack of fixed wing aircraft be explained?

Blimps have more mobility and flexibility; They are like helicopters, but larger and can support bigger gun platforms. I suspect that if the hindenburg didn't happen, we would see more blimps nowadays.

However, I would like to know if hydrogen or helium is being used to lift the blimps. Or, maybe, some sort of combination?

How about hot air balloons. Essentially blimps, but much simpler. We can drop bombs by hand on to enemy positions :D muahahahahhahahaha
