Why don't we just give the scout heat vision goggles or something of the sort, and combine it as a skill with enhanced senses?
Yay! he is red and orange instead of normal! Now we will have to code it so that EVERYTHING will have a second layer of textures (tanks, buildings, etc) MORE WORK FOR THE DEVS
nah its a shader not a texture ... ... also you could see how "hot" tanks are :D but well, i think its nice, but a less important feature atm.
Would be a good countermeasure for cloaked scouts too. Secondary function of the binoculars perhaps...
Or you can do it the complicated way and have it so that every player texture is replaced with a heat vision version that has "$ignorez" in the .VMT and you would have yourself heat vision! But that would be more like a literal wall hack, so I guess you would have to use some sort of post-processing to make the surrounding areas blue.
Only if he has superman-style heat vision. But seriously, what would this add to the game that couldn't be accomplished with the current diamonds? Wallhacks are plentiful in the game already, and the scout isn't so overpowering that anything we'd give them would need to be nerfed by spreading colored petroleum jelly over the screen whenever they have it switched on.
I've got a question... Why is the scouts sniper rifle only effective at closer ranges? I mean, I've sat in the distance and hit guys 3 or 4 times in the upper regions + head... and they continue to return fire with a medium range machine gun and eliminate me easily. I understand requiring only one shot might be overpowering it a bit... ... but sniper rifle vs machine gun at long range, and the machine gun wins?
It used to be effective at long range, sort of. But the problem is, a scoped rifle never really fit into Empires. The maps have to be fairly open and flat for tanks, making balancing sniping a pain. And at the same time, infantry don't play as large a role as in other games, so picking them off one at a time is less useful -- it's easy for a sniper to waste time accomplishing nothing for their team. For this reason, the rifle's scope was removed. And in future versions, it will be replaced with a shotgun, with the scout changed to a close-range class. The current version is mostly a placeholder for that -- everyone (or almost everyone) agrees that the current scout is nonfunctional, but it has to wait until the other important parts of the game are fixed up following the disruption of the Orange Box port-over.
Fair enough, why don't we make it so the skill allows him to when using his binoculars, instead of regular ones, turn those into Heat Vision goggles with the skill selected, so the Scout, can FUCKING SCOUT. If you get the picture.
because its no SNIPER rifle - its the SCOUT rifle ... also, dont get too used to it, it will be gone sooner or later ...
