Tickets are a balance factor, we can't remove them.

For example: A valid strategy is rushing APCs with no armour or upgrades at all, and just spawning everyone as quickly as possible in the enemy base. If the enemy has turrets above level 1, it's going to cost you a LOT of men, if not resources. If tickets aren't a factor, you could keep it up forever, and you'd win for sure. All it takes is one or two engineers to decon important structures. If you lose half your ticekts, though, it's a risk. You'll be handicapped for the rst of the game if you don't pull it off.

Oh yea, that's true, apc spawning would become pretty overpowered...

No, tickets should remain in place. Alternate idea:

Tickets should start higher (some maps it's already high enough) and every refinery should trigger a slow bleed on the enemy, making all games (in essence) timed. Once your tickets hit single digits, it's just a short matter of time before the bleed has killed you off, so if you have a hail mary you should get on it.

This would allow for epic drawn out games if people are careful with tickets on both sides, but it could never be infinitely long unless both sides recycled all refineries, something I would equate to the players actually wanting to do (f s space and place one ref to end it so majority must be having fun). It would also put weight on preserving tickets, using revive when possible, not throwing 100 tickets at a rush and if it fails just saying "oh well", etc.

Unlimited spawns? I would just apc rush everything, without armor or wepons, (~130 res)
No pls. Slaughterd or crossroads nonstop? No, filling a empty server which runs a nonstop map w/o admins around and next vote in like 1,5 hours would be another dead end ...
tickets are an important map and game ender,
and f.e. if you did good at the beginning of a map you might already harvested tickets so even if your team has to retreat you would still have that advantage, but w/o tickets thats gone and would make killing infantry a timewaste in a tank f.e.
    I don't like this ...

    A highly valuable counterpoint.

The most retarded idea you ever heard me come out with is fixing script_manifest before releasing it, we both know that =P

How about some elaboration on your opinion?

yes tickets are game enders, I don't even see how it makes the game worst, it is a fun mechanic.

Infinite tickets aren't gamebreaking, if one team is "skill stacked" and is consistently using revive that shouldn't mean the other team loses because it is overencumbered with "pubber" players that disregard orders and die consistently. What if some maps were more based on King of the hill style gameplay, where both teams have unlimited tickets and the map is on a time limit of 25 minutes and the team with more time spent on the hill is the winner. But of course commander dropped turrets would have far smaller limit because it would probably come down to which team held the hill first.

What if maps like escort had unlimited tickets for both factions and rather came down to a time limit. I see no reason why not to have more maps like the kind I just described.

Again this kind of thing is EXTREMELY dependent on the quality of your team. If the defending team had the turrets and had lower quality players then what your saying would be true. While on the other hand if the defending players were more experienced and were overall better players then they would beat the group of soldiers regardless of tickets. Also many more factors come into play for this scenario like the distance between the ninja barracks and the enemy barracks, the class compositions of both teams, how many soldiers are actively attacking or defending, and the list goes on.

Hey now, don't go bashin' pubbers. We might just rise up en masse in game, sprint to disparate parts of the map, and die needlessly.

The only idea that might work is soundspawns idea actually.

There has to be an end to a game. My problem with tickets is that it doesn't allow people to play the game how they should be. People should be able to constantly respawn without worrying about making their team lose.

How to test: Devs, create a new game mode where a system like soundspawn suggested plays out. The team that has a refinery not only gains res, but influence over the map. The team that gains points in influence, or doesn't lose points of influence, and then successfully defeats the enemy team wins.

Change how tickets work to drain to 0, but never go below 0. That means that the game is on a constant countdown depending upon how many res nodes you and your enemies capture. Spawning does nothing to tickets, but you can't respawn once your counter hits 0. revives still work how they do currently. This would turn a game into a squad whoring X minute game with intense squad based fighting on hard lines of battle at the end.

Increase the distance that you get squad points for as well.

games that get down to 0 0 on tickets turn into quite excellent games when players need to be revived or squad revved. Setting a game mode up like this could be like a faster empires vs classic which battles last hours.

Would need to reduce research cost though. Make the count down end about how long it takes to get heavy tanks with only a quarter of the refineries. That way if a team is losing, they can still hold out til both teams run out of tickets and then win sudden death.

I guess you never seen a +2hour slaughtered game. I played a 2island game where it finally ended because people left the server. There are plenty of maps, e.g. crossroads, that have had stalemates until the tickets were gone.

Tickets encourage (or even force you if it is a map with a bleeder) to break the stalemate and end the game. Unless there is a stack in one team, games will end with a RTV or people leaving if there are unlimited tickets. Also, increasing spawn timer over time will only cause people to play more defensive (no one wants to wait +30 seconds to spawn), thus promoting stalemates.

Hahaha I remember this 2islands_1fail game where the game lasted for upwards 3 hours and both coms ended up in the water in the duration of that game.
The only way it ended was because we capped their bleeder with them at like 300 tickets and held it until we won.
