http://www.dwarffortresswiki.net/index.php/Your_first_fortress Print this out and try and get a basic food economy going. underground farms + seeds, make food (kitchen) and booze (still), harvest plants (from the designation menu) on the surface until you get some seeds that produce edible plants (check the wiki), plant those on surface farms, get more food and booze. In the meanwhile mine out more rooms for immigrants and keep using the stone you mine out for use in your mason's workshops for doors and furniture.
Ehh GoW is alright, you just need a friend to play split-screen co-op with to get any value out of it.
or you can wait til gears of war 2 in november which is meant to redeem the failure that is gears of war 1 WITH MORE SEMI NAKED SWEATY HO MEN.
And no PC release either. My thoughts on GOW2 are...well, it'll be just as bad (and no PC release is probably...must have gotten tired of PC gamers flaming them all the time.) Epic Games: Puts the EPIC, in EPIC FAIL.

Damnit I bought Soul Calibur 4 instead of Mass Effect. I heard Mass Effect was kotor combined with ghost recon. Or something like that lol.
sorry to break it for you, Mass Effect was real fail for me...it even got copypasted storyline from a book released in 2006... shiny and sparkling graphics look gay for me... So adverted Tactical FPS'ness = 0
The graphics were far from shiny...the worst part of the graphics was the damned delayed texture loading you'd get on the xbox version, that was fixed in the PC version. Mass Effect has been the best XBox game I've played to date, though I have Lost Oddysey to start still.
OH yeah, forgot about uber almost instant teleporting elevators...u can have cup of tea while using it ROFL Graphics for me looked like glycen with HDR...not to mention awesome physic symulation... First KotOR was better that this .....
