"Flying the aircraft will be difficult"?????

    YAY!!! more things that newbies can use the wreck the game! :D i mean, i bet its alot easier to wreck a plane than a jeep... :o

    dont get me wrong, but dont you see the already occuring jeep-newbie problem to escalate onto the planes? ;) (i imagine the com would restrict creation permanently ehe)

    Plane maps are different to normal conquest maps, they're very large, and utilise aircraft for most jobs. You'll need aircraft to get around otherwise you can't get places fast enough, since this makes aircraft indispensable, resource rates will probably be very high/infinite on these maps.

    The current maps will probably never have aircraft.

    Frankly an aircraft that behaves like a tank with vertical movement would just be dull: Like gmod, but without the fun of making it yourself, and firing endless exploding barrels down on to normal people.

    Will I be able to load up on nothing but fuel and al-quida a few enemy buildings?
    Or sink boats in an awesome fleet with newbies of the divine wind?

    Sounds good, planes should do damage on impact.
    Still, you'd be better off bombing the buildings and going back to a nearby airfactory.

    it seems a bit odd to purposely make flying airplanes difficult, in a mulitiplayer game shouldnt the challenge come from the other players?

    purposely making playing a game difficult for the sheer will to make new players not use a feature makes no sense, and is kind of a douche bag move. planes should be designed to be as easy to controll as possible that way fun can exist and it can be from the combat.

    The most logical control method I can think of would be like in BF2142, but theres also a key to switch between normal flight and VTOL modes. In VTOL mode, the mouse would control similar to in a tank, WASD would be for directional movement, and then 2 keys for height adjustment.

    VTOL isn't the same as gunship movement.
    VTOL just means it takes off vertically, the only vehicle that will behave like you say Jessiah is the gunship, the other aircraft will probably fly like a plane does, with pitch roll and yaw as well as throttle. It's not actually that difficult once you get your head wrapped around it. It's just an extra pair of keys to press if you wanna roll.

    Much anti noob rage ensued.

    actually, make it ABLE to fly with mouse, but hell, USB joistick costs around 20euro and it's really much more fun to fly with it
    I WANT TO BE ABLE TO CHOOSE BETWEEN JOISTICK OR MOUSE!

    Honestly joysticks are pointless.

    Look at halo... mouse and keyboard and you can fly and drive vehicles no problem. Just take the flying vehicle of halo and allow it to hover and it'd be good enough like a tank in the air that lets you pivot to any point of view down. And you'd still be able to do barrel rolls and like use mouse wheel to adjust rotation. or can have two keys on keyboard like Q and E for roll left and roll right (however you want to bind it)... that's good enough without buying a crappy joystick (and you have to buy a good sturdy one which is like $100+ to enjoy it) that'll you'll regret for a game that has 99% nothing to do with vehicles... just running your ass off with a calculator to build resource towers. Or you can be a stealthy sniper and who needs vehicles.

    Imagine escort with airplanes... that would be so awesome.

    Focussedwolf, what really pisses me off is that you want there to be no skill in empires, I don't want hovering vehicles, except the gunship, because gunships hover, I want some actual skill to go into driving a vehicle, because once you have that, it feels like an achievement when you can fly a vehicle and actually kill people. 100% realism, maybe not, but difficulty in flying aircraft? I certainly fucking hope so.

    We need some skill in the aircraft. Because without it, planes will completely eclipse tanks and soldiers on the battlefield. And even worse, those who piloting those aircraft and dominating the battlefield would be noobs!

    no aircraft need to be balanced so they dont eclipse tanks. new players should be able to fly them and kill people if they are not complete idiots. if you purposely try to make planes take a lot of skill to fly you end up with an elitist mod that dies. i thought in this mod realism is thrown out for a fun game. why should it be different for planes?

    Lol, I said that because it makes sense. Aircraft are very enticing
    for noobs, especially if they are built to destroy tanks and other
    heavily armored targets. And if you don't have some way of forcing
    them to learn the controls, it will be common for them to buy
    more and more of these aircraft.

    And who would want to make a heavy tank anymore when the
    sky is filled with gunships???

    Jeger, I agree with your point. I just wanted to make my point
    that learning the controls would be a good buff from the above.
    Either that, or a lot of decent, ground based, tank based AA weapons.
