Whenever someone gets shot by infantry from behind (exclude tanks because their already too strong vs inf), it should do more damage. Why? If you manage to sneak up behind them, you should get an edge as a reward, not watch them go flying into safety.

    Pros:
    Rewards effective flanking.
Gives ambushers the edge they should get for a successful ambush.

    Cons:
    Code.
Possible lag as this could potentially require more hitboxes to be tracked.

    Alternatives:
None that I can think of.

There is no lag as all you need to define is that if the bullet comes from a certain angle it will do mroe damage :P

Then why not do the same for infantry?

Actualy it does work like that, you just have to make sure the client and the server both know what angle the bullet came from.

If you attack someone from behind and he doesn'nt notice it, he will probably die quickly anyway.

Not necessarily, especially not in 2.2 where weapons are weaker. If this suggestion is feasible, it should be implemented. Not only would it make sense, but it encourages battlefield tactics (flanking) and I'm tired of having the advantage on someone and yet they still escape or even kill me because they got lucky.

i like the new weapons (2.2, havnt fired up 2.21 yet) but this would speed the game up and encourage teamwork even more through flanking.

    great idea KILLX

... am i allowed to say that?

But some of the times, you don't flank form the back, but you flank from the side. Should we award bonuses for side damage as well?. If we do, there will be times, when you aren't flanking hem, and you still receive the bonus. + I can see this being randomly activated in CQB.

If your back is to the enemy, you deserve to die. Plain and simple.

due to the changes in 2.21 weponry this is not needed anymore, u kill quick enough while up close from behind. ^^

But what if you are some distance away? Flanking doesn't necessarily put you right up behind them, otherwise its time for some melee. ^^

Then you should be able to "give them a sporting chance and allow them to turn around and shoot you".

from a distance.... hmm... well then its a bit OP in terms of snipers with bonus dmg doing headshoots. =S

or using long range weponry etc...

with becar and nfhr i can kill targets at long distances from behind before they realise the bullets come from behind and turn around.... so.. with bonus dmg its a bit OP i think =/

not to mention close quarter combat while flanking is hideous fail then since u will end up getting shoot in the back rather often...
but on the other hand u can probably kill off a bit more players while going rambo from behind ;)

imo we should just leave it as it is ^_^

I dont like it cause i always turn around while shoting and stuff.
    I run and jump.
That means I always let them see my back, while at the same time,
    I KNOW where they are.

Give weapons a buff in damage for the first 5 meters and voila
    problem solved.

But how is that going to promote tactics on the battlefield?

Make it so that a webcam is required to play Empires. A sentient AI watches you and gauges how surprised you are in encounters. Depending on the level of surprise, you fail harder stats wise.

For vehicles, it's already in-built. For infantry it'd only make sense if the game modeled different body armor types or a specific type. Are there any assumptions about infantry wearing body armor in the game?
