i made a map for empiresmod around the theme red alert the map is based on the red alert 2 dock's in the urban levels its a simple and medium sized map (it takes 1/3 of the total hammer grid) but i made it larger by making obsticals (tanktraps, infantry can walk troug them) that engineers can build and then the other team can disable it its a rush map, it will give gameplay no longer then an hour max (or they shoud make arti less powerfull) .................................... I havent gotten a chance to play, but judging from the screenshots it looks very foggy. I would like to see the viewdistance increased a bit.
yea, i kinda play toa alot, so some infuence may have gotten in to it :D fog is so dence becous the map is rather open otherwise you coud see glimpses of eachothers bases i am getting on this in the next version, but still it will stay quite a foggy map
The setting is like emp_money. It is a great map, the only thing I would worry about is arty being too powerful.
I dont know.. it looks a bit.. empty.. and.. big. No lightning. Very bad visibility.. I recommend you try a bit more before deciding to post anything in public. ( I know.. I did too at first, isn't that right grizzly ? haha that was a lot of fun actually )
1. its not fullbright, its yust very well lighted 2. its ment to be open, its like that so you have plenty of room to build 3. visibility is bad, i am going to fix that 4. any suggestions on how to inprove? 5. maybe anyone want to playtest with me and host a server?
4. Of course. Use more different, but fitting (to each other) textures to add some contrast and color. Texturing is one of the very most important parts. Modify the Brushwork so you do have at least some Shadows. The map IS pretty much fullbright .. you are not able to make it brighter, are you? Type mat_fullbright 1 into console (sv_cheats 1 first) and compare with and without lights / lightmaps. Textures will partially take care of that but as mentiont before the Brushwork needs modification too. Modify the angles of your light_environment. Do NOT use "light" .. use "light_spot" and put in visible light sources. Regarding the basic design of the map .. well, it's very simple and ugly. Mirrored Maps of course are fair but they are boring. At least add more Z to the Map.. Height. Everything currently is on one plane, making Tanks and Artillery extremely effective. Let for example the middle part be higher grounds than top and bottom and left / right lower grounds then top and bottom. Use some displacements. You might consider changing the maps Theme to a more realistic one... using Textures and modifications of the brushwork. However, the map needs improvement. We don't really need a seconds money map. Money being bad enough from a designers viewpoint, even though the gameplay CAN be good. But good gameplay never is excuse for bad graphics anyways. ... can't think of more atm.
ok, ty i wil redo parts of the map's architecture to comply to your ideas shoud i add buildings to the map or do they take up to mutch room? can i, from a mappers point of view, make bunkers for like 600 x 600 that are engineerable to make them solid? if so then i can make my map a bit more spicey

lol so rong! look at my map as a scetchwork in progress it needs eyecandy and some tuning but i belive it can give very good gameplay!
Annyways, let's start with some basic ways of improving your map: Fix the lightning, it makes jesus eyes blead Fix the brushwork it's even more booring then watching paint dry Fix the texturing if you can tell exactly how a texture looks then your doing somthing wrong Really, i can't find one thing in the map that's really possetive, get back to work and finnish it before even thinking about relesing it Sorry if it sounds harsh, but it's true
it WAS a 1 day's work... but hey, il inprove it i got some pretty ideas wat about blast/shell holes in the surface of the islands? and walls with cracks in that can be busted? maybe a tunnel troug the level connecting diffrent islands with eachother only for infantry and the railings seen next to the 2 bridges (the ones to walk on) around all the islands to connect stuff and the start spot pulled upwards and the center island downwards (anti arti) and then maybe some random stuff on the (way down) floor connected by eachother by the railings and little sand traps on the islands (displacements) to give infantry a bit more cover any other ideas?
