there appears to be an exploit related to player names. on the scoreboard *dead* is the death indicator, yet players such as "*Dead*Assquatch" are able to exploit this in their favor. fix or ban the exploiters screenshot http://postimg.org/image/ao31cd9at/
Quite honestly, its been used since forever. Some assholes will probably claim "mind games" and "tactics", but its just yet another way to abuse the system for own gain, even moreso than using illegal characters to obscure the name. Its also lovely to shout at such people at zero tickets when youre waiting for a alive guy to join a rev squad. Brilliant. Short story: It shouldnt happen, but it does and i doubt anyone will care to enforce any rules about it.
I'm fairly certain that there's been a thread like this before, but in any case, the solution is to make the *Dead* part of the name stand out in a way that is impossible to copy via changing your steam name.
This kind of thing would be better solved if it was taken up with an admin of the server you played on. Vicki who owns and funds the viper server is very active in helping people with these kind of situations long as people actually talk to her and not bitch about it for months at a time. Here is her contact information via steam Her common complaint is that nobody tells her anything. If you have any issues that involve behavior of others, addressing it to her would be the best choice of action. Viper and the empires forum are very separate entities, the people who play on viper just happen to enjoy shit posting here.
Guess what, there's literally nothing I can do about this! Can't use a character that people can't put in their Steam name because no such character exists; can't color it differently because the code doesn't allow for it (A given line has to be all the same color.) I could put another column in with the header "Dead" and put like an X in there to show if someone's dead or not.
This has been brought up about every few months. Easiest fix is make so you can not see who is dead on the other team. You can't see there class....... and seeing how many people are still alive is kind of lame. Another option that would also help with stacking is also block names.(and remove the kill notification) So until you join a team you have no idea who is on it.
what exactly is the problem with this? and how is it an exploit? what does it exploit? a lack of calm?
Fundamentally, do we really need to know who is and is not dead? I mean, would the game change that much if such information wasn't shared at all?
It can have it's uses, helps to identify if that scout that's always in your base is dead or what the usual suspects who ninja are up to. For the most part though, I don't think it matters too much.
I think theres a plugin to disallow certain names and such, I am just not sure it will interfere with the real dead prefix
Imagine how differently games would play out if you couldn't see who was dead on the other team or how many tickets they had.
Perhaps, I like to think that we (you?) took from CS and the likes where the dead are clearly presented.
