Cosplay preplanning

A lot of the arguments for that video were bullshit. Japanese culture was influenced by entertainment, not only the other way around. The only thing I agree with is that people portray other ethnic groups with exaggerated stereotypes:

Engrish failed, yet I agree saying "it's just in white ppl's heads" is wrong, in some white ppl's head would be correct,
last time I looked in the mirror I was kinda pale but still didn't think anime ppl are 99% caucasian,

actually blizz... most white cosplayers look bad... =/

and by that im not saying there isnt plenty of fail on the asian side, but there is rarely any white cosplayer which makes ya go "thats awesome", but there is a few cases where its really good ofc.

but keep in mind, the comment above only applies to anime cosplay.

cosplaying like wonderwoman etc from western comics etc = no problemo.
They look all goodie when doing that. (as in: there is a fuck ton of fail but there is quite a lot of good looking cases)


the main issue is that a white person cosplay a asian person... which in most cases is like trying to cosplay a blue circle while being a red square... it doesnt matter what colour the square change into... its still a square trying to cosplay a circle.
So it nearly never manage to look like a replica.

but as i said, there are a few exceptions where the cosplay looks really good.

 

newsflash: asians can look quite a lot younger than their age.

but yes, there is plenty of cosplayers above 20. (i have no clue on the ratio of below 20 and above 20 though)

 

no, your picture is heavily shopped, and from all the cosplays from asia, or any other region far away from our culture we only see mostly the very best and sometimes the very worst... all the average is filtered out because of people not giving a fuck about average (and think, good average gets photographed, bad but still average does not get any attention) and socially filtering them out

western photo pool still contains a lot of average, since we are faaaar closer to the source and thus social filtering (wow look at this she/he looks awesome or wow haha she/he looks like an idiot) still has to take its toll on the average going around

your words of "western style character costumes look better wearing by white people" is actually a direct effect of that...

this is why japan seems to be better at japan's characters, and western world better at western world characters

this has been scientifically proven on the subject of cooking recepies, photographs of erotic models, art and so forth, i think its a small stretch to pull it towards "cosplay" wich is basically a bad japanese pronunciation of the English word "costume play" (just as baurepen is a bad pronunciation of "ballpen") and not at all exclusive to Japans culture (just for the idiot thinking this, not judging anyone though)

However, I do believe a western person is more suitable to cosplay a western fictional character.
and a asian is better at cosplaying a asian fictional character.

and as you stated... yes a lot of mediocre stuff gets filtered, i said before that there is plenty of bad cosplay on both sides.

And u know what? i also mentioned that i still hardly find ANY good anime cosplays by white people.
DESPITE that there is plenty of cosplay done by white people.
i find tons and tons of asian ones though.
