Don't worry, im sure NF won't get jealous. After all, their heavy tank is bigger... And the tracks are actually the same width apart. It just doesn't look like it. Now we have to make that decision. There's threads discussing stats and such here: https://forums.empiresmod.com/index.php?threads/tank-destroyer-stats-features.20252/ In short though. High front armour. And anti-tank weaponry.
High? (ish) BE -> 87k verts, 70k faces, 164k tris NF -> 15k verts, 12k faces, 22k tris (It's the tracks and wheels that increase the count)
oooo my, will they be comprised or reduced when you release them? Anyways, phenomenal beautiful work man!
These are the high poly ones, that will be used for normal map baking. They're not finished yet... Still need more details... Once that's done, i'll reduce them down to ~= 4k verts each to go in game.
My gut keeps telling me that be TD is gonna have trouble in the handling department, but I wouldn't really know til it got in game. Looking at them I do like the nf one better, but I guess that's just cause it's a little more complete.
Honestly it would probably be the most boring job in the world to get the right numbers for the handling and armor hitbox. I think we are a year from seeing this on the field.
@duke I can remodel them if i have to. I assume this is to get a fully rotating turret? I think a new chassis would be better from a design point of view. There's a nice article somewhere about tf2 having different character silhouettes, so that it was easy for players to distinguish them. The afv and apc are quite close, it makes them hard to distinguish from long range. I don't want to add chassis confusion, its not good for new players or the commander. The BE one should be easy to change, however its finding a nice design for the NF one that will be difficult...
I was wondering, isnt it really OP that the left tank destroyer can move freely with the turret, whilst the other one only has an angle of 30-60 degrees?
The property about the turret is still under discussion. They will both have the same property. (free or not)
If they both have the same property isnt it impossible to have the right tank? Because if that one turns freely its going to kill its own wheels also, isnt freely turning really op? Because I thought tank destroyers were suppose to be bad close range. But if they can freeturn thats a bit dumb
The intention of that image was just the turret design itself, not that it rotates 360 degrees. In fact I think the cannon should remain fixed, like the arty tank - that's the trade-off with a tank destroyer - the cannon is unwieldy.
An unmanned turret is definitely a nice idea. So far it would only give a different look in the game, no new mechanics.
