When holding middle click in command view you can use your mouse to look around/wasd to move like in noclip. /post
Better yet Commander does not clip with brushes in comm view mode, so he doesn't get stuck on all the random shit lying around.
Like ZM style? I think perhaps some maps would need to be built with this in mind (quite a lot have wierdnesses outside the skyboxes or outside the normal relms of access), but otherwise... mhm.
RTSes are top down for a reason, that reason is because it's easier. The only problem in empires is that there's a lot of clutter, so you can't always see your people from the top, and alt rotate kinda sucks.
you could make a "commander clip" brush, like commander clips trough everything besides commander clip brush the skybox could be coated with it, and some special geometry that you dont want the commander to clip trough
No, but he has an advantage if his view doesn't get stuck on a mountain, or if he can slide inside to the indoor corridors and caves that exist on many maps. Spec mode is just much, much easier for players to manage. I already have alt-look rebound to mouse3, and it helps a HUGE amount as comm, even though it's so limited. Having mouse3 switch the comm to spec mode like in ZM would be hugely helpful. Basically, I rarely have trouble maneuvering my view in ZM. I have trouble maneuvering my view in Empires all the time.
Just need to make sure he can't plant a barracks below the map, or anywhere else he shouldn't be able.
Zombie Master. It's another RTS + FPS game, although in it, the player in the role of the Zombie Master uses RTS control to send a bunch of zombie bots against a team consisting of everyone else. They also use traps and so on. Mostly, it's worth using for comparison because it's another source mod that uses RTS controls, and it does what this thread is requesting.
I'd prefer if the middle mouse click allowed you to grab-move like in black and white, and a number of other RTS games. Especially given the rather poor minimap responsiveness.
