This buggers me every time I go to build a tank. I go to build a new tanks, strip it empty and bam! It still weighs 600... whatevers... This is frustrating and confusing and (As far as I can tell) Completely unnecessary.

So why don't we do away with it and simply start from zero? That way it is clear what our weight limits are and how they work. People don't need to know how much the tank weighs empty.

They should zero the shown weight and just call the additional, nonchassis weight the 'payload/weapon' weight.

Maybe there where some ideas for base weight, which were never implemented.
Someone just have to change the 16 vehicle script files in the script folder.

    Good idea.

Still, it's been clear that the GUI has needed a rehaul for some time, although I guess this is just a small tweak.

The BE heavy has a maximum weight of 1337. ARE YOU SURE YOU WANT THIS CHANGED?!

    No UI tweak is small.

This tweak in particular is actually quite small and would take only minutes to do.

I'll admit, that was cause for hesitation. But for clarity, yes

yes, no more more rail heavy rape on money? lol

But I agree, I also suggest weight should affect speed, like the speed displayed on the engines is it's speed at maximum weight, so it's worth it to not add that extra mg or ml or cannon you will probably not use enough to repay for it.

There's a horsepower penalty for weight, but all engines have an absurdly high maximum weight. It wouldn't work well without some feedback in the UI. A speed penalty for weight could be better than a horsepower penalty, just because the latter is not as tangible, but I'd still recommend the UI. Especially if you don't know the tank's total weight, it could be difficult to know when you're overweighting your tank.

I thought that a engine penalty might be the reason for the weight issue. However, since the penalty is so invisible to almost not actually exist.

If one is implemented better/more harshly, we'd need to alter the ui significantly to accommodate it.

For now, I think we're pretty safe to simply drop it

I think the GUI for the vehicle building has been needing a overhaul for sometime now too. Its clunky and sluggish to use, for me at least.

i proposed a new look for the menu (via photoshop as I am shit at actually coding a UI [or coding period])

it was in the artwork section but kinda fell down with little feedback. As such i became disinterested with continuing figmentational designs.

There is already a small GUI overhaul for the next version:
Shortcuts for weapons, different icons for armors and engines and the customize button is red. Don't know if the devs will add more changes, but I like the current ones.

I agree that relabeling weight as Loadout weight and setting the minimum at 0 is an excellent suggestion.

Now if you would, PLEASE USE THE "Organize things" STICKY (located at the top of the suggestions forum) TO GET THIS IDEA RECOGNIZED!

    Wertbarg stamp of approval.

What I meant is that no UI improvement is too small to be ignored.

I originally thought weight would make my tank go slower or something, which is why there's a base amount of weight. However, it doesn't appear to be the case, at least not right now.

Perhaps we can keep the chassis' base weight in the final produced vehicle (so that physics don't go squick), but the GUI only tells you about the vehicle's loadout weight limits.
