A dev once said in the future there will be configurable graphics on the models. Well, here's my suggestions:

And on a related note, everyone that doesn't have a fat upload pipe on their connection gets boned :P.

this is basically 2 tiny downloads; nothing major.

and it would really add to the gameplay.

IMO, you should only be able to do this if you are part of a recognised clan, so you can't just have every recruit with boobs across their chest.

    -----------
personally, I wouldn't have "1" included, you can already see the patch on their arm from there and it would just look a little ott.

I love the suggestion, but I disagree with this comment. I can see your reasoning, but I have no intention of becoming part of a clan. Why should I be punished just because some nubs can't be trusted? If the feature makes it, it should be available to everyone.

Oh, and instead of 1 on the helmet, put a large one across the back, where you can't currently see any.

You can already spray a goatse next to the barracks, some insignias on your body will be much less noticable than that

ok, just make it "unofficial", like adding custom sprays to CS, so only experienced players do so.

Seems cool, but in order to have stuff like that, it's diffrent from sprays. Sprays are only in use once they are used, and disapear. Plus they need to be used, not like models, which have to be created beforehand.

I just think it's more complicated then just putting stuff on a model when they join a game.
What IS feasable, however, is like what they do in Space Cowboy and allow a small image above your head, that is whatever you want, and everyone in your brigade shares your image.

I dont see a problem with this... instead of that sprite appearing over your head... why not make it appear in those specific areas of the model?

The devs already said they'd do this in the future, so I can assume they will be willing to confront the trouble to make it possible.

And sprites... Uhh... That just wouldn't be cool

what about if we post our designs to a dev member who can give us some sort of code to paste in the console or something

or if we could upload the design to a database, we could have models built up so when we join a server with a particular name, we would get our models :D

Why an entire model? you just need to download the small texture files... thats it...

Sprites = revealing, especially in dark places. And not cool looking, I don't want the FB logo and a bunch of medals floating above my head.

Models = impractical because of filesizes and potential abuse.

Limited size custom decals are really the only way to go, in my opinion.

I'm not sure how it would work with decals...skins is the way to go (don't think skins means models I'll hate you then : / ) ^+^

I want a gigantic banner with my (Space Marine) Chapters insignia on it! Or at least give the squad leaders something that distinguishes them from the rest. :) Shoulder patches are quite insignificant in size. Hard to make out even at close range... but they'd be cool nevertheless.

    Edit:
I'm not sure how this goes in Source, but in HL you had to recompile the model to get custom skins in... Since in Source skins are in a separate file it might work without re-compile.
