How about to be super popular, we screw Empires and work on CounterStrike 1.7. We can get half the idiots still playing 1.6 to think it is legit and we would be SUPER POPULAR.
I do have an idea on how to make the game more popular: Stop making "Conquest" maps. I mean really, where did that idea even come from? "Let's make some Empire maps with no research, only the lowest tech vehicles (except for District402, where we will one-up ourselves by having no vehicles at all), no commander and no building placement!" Every time I play those maps it's like going to my favorite bar and ordering a cheeseburger only to find out that they're trying out a new type of cheeseburger, one that doesn't actually have any cheese or burger in it, so it's basically just a bun with some lettuce. Lame. If I'd wanted that, I would have gone to some sissy veggie place, like Counterstrike. Wait, I'm confusing my metaphors. You know what I mean!
It's a matter of taste really, I like Conquest maps because it doesn't so much rely on having decent team mates, And i just love the fun of being a rifleman with dozens of men to kill.
Can you put a map more than once in a rotation? Conquest maps can be vaguely interesting to break up the regular Empires rotation, but KM is driving me nuts with their ratio of Conquest-to-Comm maps. I wonder if you could do a rotation like: District402 regular map 1 regular map 2 regular map 3 regular map 4 Escort regular map 1 regular map 2 regular map 3 regular map 4 That Ice Map That I Really Don't Like regular map 1 (etc) So you basically get 1 Conquest map per full rotation of Commander maps but it's a different Conquest map every cycle. That would make me want to kill people less IRL.
Conquest maps are a way for mappers to make objective-oriented maps, rather than "kill the CV or barracks of the enemy team". Over time, you'll see classic and conquest maps combined.
Moving to the CryENGINE2 is a very cool idea, as apart from the obvious, that it owns the source engine with it's cutting-edge technology and modder-friendly tools such as the Sandbox2 and its .Lua structure, the source engine was never designed for large and battlefield-like games like Empires. Furthermore, all of you evil ones that say that only state of the art PCs can run CryENGINE2 may burn in hell, as you can run it perfectly fine on a $900 machine. Besides, if Cevat Yerli challanged Gabe Newell in a Uwe-Boll-style boxing match, he would wipe the floor with him. [/CryFanboy off]
Krenzo doesn't wants another engine switch, he'd have to start all over again with all of the code, and all the content would have to be redesigned.
OH don't forget their amazing netcode, and their incredible mod team support. Just ask Krenzo how amazing CryTek's mod support is.
FYI Cevat wears a slim version of the Crysis nano suit under his sweater 24/7, he just has to set in on maximum strength and knock Gabe out in one punch, just look at those arms, nano power! And no, don't even try to fit Gabe into freeman's exoskeleton, you will hurt both Gabe and yourself in the process.
Here's an idea: Don't recruit in CSS pubs. Counter Strike is a legend in it's genre, The best PC Online FPS really. It's kinda funny to hear that CS was ever considered realistic. or that any game has ever been realistic. Back in emp 1.7 or 1.6 or maybe 1.5, whichever it was, I brought some friends into empires from cs, and they liked it, but the problem with most people who are still playing cs 1.6 is that they are playing 1.6 still because they don't have great computers >_>. Empires is growing steadily, and as of now, I think it is safe to say it is on par with what NS has right now. When all is said and done, I think Empires will gain a boost in popularity, especially when krenzo sticks the good year blimp in there somewhere >_>
