I was disappointed after the thread was closed after arklansman brought it back up. It allowed me to consider curiously.. Are airplanes still one month away code-wise? I mean if they are, and all effort was collaborated together to produce even the first step in implementing aircrafts.. That would be a great leap for empires, and especially after waiting so long. Krenzo, what are your thoughts on this? Is your estimate still somewhat accurate? For all referance, that quote is from two and a half years ago.
Code is more done than art. There was one bilarious RC wehre you could spawn what looked like tiny afv, but was powered by aeroplane physics. I could never do it though

Sorry arklansman, I didn't see that flounder posted.. Implementing airplanes will be getting empires back to its roots in battlefield 1942. As far as I know aside from garrys mod, airplanes have never been done in a source mod before and will definitely be noticed in the half-life community. This will happen once it's done eventually, but what is there to say about focusing on it now? If the development team were to create a working beta of the dropship and anti-aircraft turret then those two key components would be all that is needed to create the first functioning stage of airplanes to empires.
different code, i know that almost all BE aircraft dont have models and i haventdone any of theanimations for any aircraft, but they will come eventually
I think the empires team wants to avoid flying triangles and rolling squares wherever possible. I wouldn't mind it, but it would make the game look half assed and not done.
Airplanes are still pretty far off. Flight physics was done by Krenzo a while ago. Empires supported multiple move types since the begining, so, airplanes -can- be created with a special build. However, Models are still in progress. Megel said something about the NF models being done, but don't quote me on that. There is no way to spawn aircraft without some code hacks (Forcing all vehicles to use flight physics), and the BE models are nowhere near being done. Not to mention Anti-Aircraft weapons haven't been started, no has any formal planning on how to implement aircraft. At best, they are 6-8 months away. We want to make sure the current ground game plays right and fun before we add a third dimension to combat, then we need to get scaling physics to work right, and a few other fun things. So, don't expect them for 2.3, probably not 2.4, but, after that, who knows. I don't speculate (and am not planning) that far. We cross each bridge as we come to it, and we aren't close to the aircraft bridge yet.
Can't we not bother with scaling... ... helicopter like gunship esque aircraft would fit fine in the current mapsize.
